I've been a member of the forum for a little over a year now and I've enjoyed the interaction. In my 'real life', in addition to working here in Kampala, I'm also working on a master's degree in Organizational Performance. This semester I'm taking a course in Ethnographic Research Methods which is basically studying communities through observation and asking questions (in the forum and with some interviews) and I've chosen to study the Havanese forum as an online community. I've been in touch with the moderators and admin for the forum and they have given me permission to do this. What this means is that I would spend the next few weeks observing the forum - the posts, the interactions, etc.. I will also be contacting some of you privately to ask to interview you. I may also post a few questions related to the research for voluntary response from as many of you who would like to respond.
Through my work I have a commitment to keep identities and identifying information about everyone in the group anonymous and confidential in my report and any discussions I may have with classmates or the professor.
However, if anyone objects to being included in this study, all you have to do is let me know (send me a PM) and I will be sure to ignore your posts and responses and wouldn't ask you to participate in any interviews or surveys. I also would not include anything about you or your interactions on the forum in my report for the class.
