I am leaving tomorrow morn for Honolulu for a 10 day trip with 12 of my girlfriends! We catch the Ship on Monday for 7 days and Island Hop!!

I am sooo excited - but.... I am afraid I will miss my fur babies too much and scared they won't love me as much when I get home!!! They willl be with my son and husband...but it just isn't mommy...

When we made the plans a year ago a puppy was not even on my mind - let alone 2!!!!

So my question is - anyone leave their pup at such a young age for such a long time? Ollie is one and Austin is 7 months!!

Will they still love me???????

I have no expertise to offer on being away. I'm already worried about my annual 4 days in Las Vegas in Feb/March when I will be away from mine, so I need tips too! lol

But I wanted to say have a great trip, and it sounds like they are in GREAT hands! You can always call and have your DH or son put you on speaker phone to say hi!

Or...even record a little message for them in one of those build a bears.

Am I a dork or what?

I completely understand your concern for your little fur babies. I'm right there with you. We're leaving for 11 days in Sept. (like you, these plans were made well before she was even a thought in our lives) and I'm worried sick about how Shadow will do. My daughter and son (both adults w/their own homes/families) will share the responsibility of taking care of her. I'd feel so much better if it was just me leaving, but it's DH and me. I hope she's not "scarred for life by this".

Melissa should have some great advice for you, with all her globe trotting her furbabies still love her.

Have a great time.

That sounds like so much fun! I agree with Kara. Make a recording for your pups to listen to every day. That way they can at least hear your voice.

If you're anything like me, you'll probably be calling home at least twice a day to check up on them so maybe you can talk to them on the phone, too.

Yes! They will love you when you get back!

Oh, you poor thing. A Hawaian cruise!!
I haven't been away from mine, but my Mom (who lives with us) was away for 2 weeks, and they were great when she got back.

We have left Brady many times. He goes to his breeder. The first time we left him for 9 days was in December, he was about 7 months old. She probably thought we were insane since I emailed her twice a day. I also called from the airport to make sure he was okay on our way out of the country. My DH and I would wake up in the morning and he would turn to me and ask "What do you think Brady is doing right now?" It takes them a few hours, but they adjust. When we come home from a vacation, we get the best greetings ever. It is almost worth going away just to get the Brady greeting when we return. Have a great time on your cruise and don't worry too much. These dogs are very adaptable and they will do great so long as someone is there to give them love (nothing is quite as good as mommy though).

Oh Catherine, I wish I could feel sorry for you leaving your babies to go on a trip with friends to paradise, NO WAY!!!!!!!! Go and have a great time they will miss you but will be fine.

Shannon has a similar thread going. Her trip will be exciting and rewarding.

You leave your babies to go to Hawaii, Shannon leaves hers to get a new puppy and I get to fly all the way accross the country to ride 3 days in a car with 3 cats and a car sick dog. There is something wrong with this picture.

Don't feel too bad, Sandi

I'm about to embark on a 7 day trip to Michigan with 7 kids and a dog. On the move the whole time, 2 nights in one place, 2 nights in the next, etc. I need to buy Tylenol in bulk. lol
