My little angel, Dionna, is now one year's old
. Yesterday was her birthday and I have had her for 10 months (I got her at 8 weeks old). She is my first dog although technically my second after I lost my first dog, which I adopted from a shelter after 8 days (I wrote about it in my introduction).
I cannot tell you how much I love Dionna. She is the perfect dog, in my eyes. We started with an in home trainer at 9 weeks old (the trainer uses dog psychology and a positive approach to training) and they did a temperment test and adapted the training to match her personality. Things are not perfect nor do I expect them to be but the small issues we have pale in comparison to the joy and happiness she has brought me and my family. She is the ambassador of good will in the neighborhood, too, as she loves people. Down the road I am hoping to volunteer with her at Walter Reed.
Despite being one, she still has lots of puppy still in her. She still does daily "puppy madness'' (as my trainer defined this behavior) where she will run around like mad, making little grunting noises
She loves her toys and loves to shake them, fetch them, take them in her bed. She loves to sit in my lap. She is a velcro dog but does not have SA. She can be mischievous despite being a more submissive dog--she loves to go after napkins, toilet paper, kleenex etc.
Again, there are some issues that we are working on (i.e. brushing--she does not like to be brushed, eating--she is picky but also has some digestion issues) but these are worth it. I would do anything to keep her healthy and happy and I try to be the best mommy to her as possible.
I have learned a lot from this board and look forward to continuing to learn. I will post pictures in this thread of her birthday celebration. We got her a doggie cupcake from this holistic pet store
and we sang happy birthday to her. We also have an appointment next week with Santa for her to meet him and will get some pictures.
