Static!!!

Now that we've had to turn on the heat - Panda's coat has gone wild... She's got the soft cottony coat and the static is causing her to matt like crazy... Anyone have any suggestions? We're going to buy a humidifier (seems like a bad investment in south GA where we are plagued with humidity), but inside does get dry in the winter. Any ideas how to keep her from matting would be GREATLY appreciated!

I live in NC and with the oil heat the air is sooo dry. We have a humidifier just for Boo Boo who has allergy's it really does help his skin from getting dry he also has dry eye and the eyes get even dryer and he needs to have wetting drops several times a day (not his reg. drops there always 2 times a day) in winter. My Hav's do get the fly aways but they also get the benefit of the humidifier and I use the Ice on Ice a bit more. The humidifier is in the bed room near Boo Boo's pillow.

Puppycut

Maybe a leave in conditioner? Or EQyss Survivor. It a detangler shine product.

I have a built in humidifier and don't have any static problems, so that should help a bit too.

Henry hates static and "shocks". I dont know if this will help, but I sometimes rub him down with a sheet of Downey Fabric softener. Or a little spray of Static Guard on a brush.

We've done the puppycut - wouldn't have survived this long without it! Her cottony coat and blowing coat are a horrible combination. Hopefully the humidifier will help - it seems like she is really itchy also (and her skin is pink and warm) - maybe a trip to the vet to check everything out.

I just posted about this product somewhere else, too.

We live in the high desert where we have tons of static, especially in the winter. My favorite, year-round, product is The Coat Handler Detangler Spray. It cuts way down on the static in Pepper's coat and keeps it nice and soft, too. No build-up on the hair, either.

To be fair, we use it in conjunction with The Coat Handler Shampoo and Conditioner. But I think it would work wonders without those.

Glad you're going to check withe the vet about her skin being pink, warm, and itchy. Our Pepper has allergies so, for him, the static sheets, Coat Detangler, etc weren't options. Some of the things that did help a lot with winter static (and allergies) included humidifier, lots of fish oil (double doze morning and evening really keep his coat from getting dry), puppy cut, wipe down when he comes in from outside, baths 2-3 x/month with oatmeal shampoo and conditioner (leave on 5 min each and we use the 'float the coat' method of a full sink of warm water with the conditioner to further moisten his skin), and no hot water (also dries the coat/skin). Good luck!
