"Focus Group"

Hi Everyone
I'm hoping that you'd be willing to help me with my research by participating in this thread as a quasi-'focus group' discussion.

This works as a normal thread, but instead of talking about Perry, I'm going to post a question in hopes that you will respond. I will follow up with other questions.

So, the first question is: Tell me about your experience in the forum. What brought you here?

I started reading the forum before Cassie joined our family as I was trying to learn as much as I could on the breed. I joined a few months later when I wanted to ask some specific questions. Also, I think some features like pictures donít show up unless you are signed in as a member. I have had experience raising three puppies (two shelties and one golden as well as family dachshunds, mini and standard), but Havanese have many traits that were new..especially grooming...and my puppy rearing experience was dated!

I'm assuming you don't need me to answer since you already interviewed me?

I came to the forum to join like minded people with a love of Havanese. Oliver now 4 was my first Hav and although I had researched the breed before getting Ollie, I wanted first hand info and informed, knowing people that could answer specific questions I might have about Ollie. This forum has become so much more than that for me. The people here are the kindest, most caring and most thoughtful people and are kindred spirits about all things Havi. We are bonded by our love of the Havanese and when sharing good and bad there is nothing like this forum and the people on it for getting that sister/brotherhood relationship. This is a forum, but I feel deep friendships have developed for me here, even though I have never met anyone in person. I think our relationships here are very special.

I joined this forum when I decided to get on a waiting list for a Havanese puppy. I wanted to hear as much as I could from current Havanese owners about their dogs and experiences. I have been able to get answers to my questions and learn so much about these precious little dogs from the people on this forum. There are so many fun and knowledgible people on this forum. I love seeing the photos and hearing everyones stories. My KC will be 8 mos old on April 8th!

I joined this group shortly before bringing home my girl, Chi-Chi. I am an over-thinker in a huge way and wanted to be sure I was adequately prepared for anything and everything. I found this forum while perusing the Havaneseworld.org website and joined immediately. I spent hours each day searching through old threads, which hold a wealth of information. Then I stayed because of the members' shared love of their dogs and the breed in general. I have found it to be a very welcoming community.

I joined the forum several months before bringing my Havanese puppy home. I was new to the breed and was eager to learn as much as possible. I had previously been involved with a Bichon forum with my prior dog and I loved it. I must admit that I almost quit the forum shortly after joining. There were some members at the time that were very judgemental and almost mean in their responses. I was turned off by this behavior and really did not want to deal with it. I am so glad I decided to stay. I decided to have a tougher skin and ignore those that were a little unkind. This forum has been a welcome place to connect with like minded people and share our experiences, joys and sorrows with our dogs.

I joined the forum to learn about the breed prior to getting Leo our first Havanese. Then once Leo arrived I had questions that were best answered by people who understood Havanese. I have always had dogs but Leo and Rex are our first toy breed dogs. Often times someone who has the same breed is best to answer questions. Additionally it is fun to hear about other Havanese and their owners and share information about your dogs with people who are interested.

Do you want us to answer here if we are also being interviewed? Diane, I'm glad those mean people are gone. I don't have very thick skin!

I found this forum whilst I was researching the Havanese breed and trying to figure out if a Havanese was right for my lifestyle. The information on the forum was invaluable to me in preparing for a puppy (if you exclude having dogs as a child) Paddington was my first dog. I found it really helpful to be able to see the content of the posts (excluding photos) without having to sign up. From being able to access that content I determined that it was a good, active forum, with sensible people. The external resources directed to by forum members, in particular Ian Dunbarís material and Kikopup on youtube were so good -it really set me up for being proactive about positive reinforcement training.

I finally signed up to the forum shortly after getting Paddington, so I could submit a post. I was seriously sleep deprived (from his barking) and desperate for help with his toileting!
