Belly Bands

Hi All - I posted this earlier today in another thread but thought it could get lost so am starting a new thread. I'm looking for your thoughts on the use of belly bands for boys.

A few days after his neuter Eli began to mark heavily in the house. I put a onesie on him as I found it curbs marking and general potty problems because he doesn't want to get himself wet/dirty. However, the onesie restricts is movements. While wearing it he doesn't seem to use his back legs much and doesn't walk right/play while he has it on. I did some research and came across belly bands. If anyone has any experience with them I'd appreciate it if you could let me know:
- If they work to curb marking and enhance potty training success?
- Do dogs develop a "crutch" so they cannot be trusted without them?

We walked Eli 8 times yesterday (every 75 - 90 min) so no potty accidents / marking but we simply cannot keep up this pace. I also don't think he's learning to hold it with such frequent walks but I want zero accidents in the house for a sustained period of time so the whole family is chipping in.

At one point I was using belly bands on both boys because I was going crazy from the peeing/marking in the house. I found myself angry and upset all the time. It wasn't good for any of us. The first couple of days nobody did anything in the belly band, then over time they were still trying to mark. It just didn't hit my stuff, instead wetting the pad.

I still have the belly bands in the house but rarely use them. Recently Ruby went through her first heat and Bailey wore a belly band all the time they were in the house. Of course I had to take it off him when he went out.

Geri - Do the boys still mark or have they outgrown that behavior?

I use a belly band on Cody when I'm visiting someone else's house or when I have a new foster in the house (since Cody thinks he has to claim everything as "MINE", "MINE", "DEFINITELY MINE"). It won't stop your dog from peeing/marking, it just stops them from ruining your house. You can't leave it on all the time, their skin can get infected (since they may be wet). It doesn't help with the training at all but it can definitely be a sanity-saver at times.

If Eli is going more than usual and it happened right after his neuter, do you think he may have a urinary tract infection? Just a thought!

BELLY BANDS WILL NOT STOP HIM FROM MARKING. MY GUYS NEVER TRIED TO MARK INSIDE MY HOUSE. HOWEVER, FRED WILL TRY TO MARK IN OTHER PEOPLES HOUSE. HE WILL TRY TO MARK WITHIN THE FIRST COUPLE MINUTES OF BEING THERE. I WATCH HIM LIKE A HAWK AND AS SOON AS I SEE HIM START TO LIFT HIS LEG, I YELL, NO!! THAT'S ALL IT TAKES. HE IS GOOD FOR THE REST OF THE VISIT. HE'S GETTING BETTER WITH MY CORRECTING HIM. A FEW DAYS AGO WE WENT TO BRADY'S MOMS HOUSE AND HE DIDN'T EVEN TRY.
YOU NEED TO SCARE HIM. CATCH HIM IN THE ACT AND CLAP YOUR HANDS WHILE SAYING, NO! YOU CAN GET THE BELLYBANDS, BUT YOU STILL NEED TO CORRECT HIM.
