dont let your dog stick their head out the window!

when its too hot or cold for a walk,i alwaks take django for a drive. we go thru the neighborhood and i open my window all the way to let django breathi n the fresh air. i drive VERY slow less then 10 mps and soaks in all the smells. tuesday

i had to run to CVS and it was 23 degrees so i took D for a ride. i opened the window and was going a tad bit faster than usual. the next morning his eye was the size of a big marble, green goop coming out of each end of his eye so much to the point that his eye was sealed shut! i managed to wipe away as much as possible. he was being groomed yesterday so the groomer gave him a nice eye bath and got all the goop off. his eye was so swollen and red it looked as though his eyelids had turned inside out.
of course, i got in to see the vet and he thinks something got in his eye or he got bit by a spider or a rip in his cornia. they tested for the tear, all was good. i don't think it was a spider bite.

he gave him a shot of benadryl and would have given him prednisone but because he's already on it and we have a excessive peeing issue going on he opted not to. sent me home with eyedrops.

i could just kick myself for not driving my usual super slow speed with his head out the window. i guess i thought it's cold, no bug in the air so nothing will fly in his eye. i didn't think of all the gunk in the streets.

thank goodness he's much better this morning. a few more warm compacts and eyedrops and on the road to recovery.

I guess we all have our lapses in sanity. Then we look back and wonder how we could have been so dumb!

I am so sorry, hope all is getting better. I was told letting them put their heads out the window could cause ear and eye problems??? I only do it on my subdivision where I am only driving 15 mph :-} Actually I try not to let this dog do it at all...somehow they all want to though!!!

Yikes, I can see how that could happen. Gucci loves stickin' her nose out the window and taking in the smells, its one of her favorite things to do, if not her favorite.

I hope it heals quickly

I never would have thought of that though I must admit, it never occurred to me to have an open window anywhere near them. I guess I was afraid it would provide an easy exit for my wanderer (Milo). I hope he's feeling a lot better soon.

I hope that dejango is much better today. Maddie is jealous she thinks that sounds like fun hanging out the window. We are sorry that happened.

Poor Django, that sounds painful for him and very scary for you! I hope he's all better real soon.
