Lexi blew my mind...

As most of you know, Lexi is a certified Therapy dog and goes on a regular basis to Nursing homes, and visits with the patients and as well as the altzheimer wing. She is wonderful with the elderly.
But...yesterday we started a new therapy program where she went into a Kindergarten class - to read with the children. She was a perfect angel and was so happy to be with all the kids. They asked a million questions, and all wanted to be with her. There was one girl who had been bitten by a dog and was very afraid of all dogs. I promised to keep Lexi far from her so she would be comfortable. Well.... within 10 minutes, the girl made her way over and pet Lexi on the back. When we went into the circle to read, Lexi went straight for HER!! And the little girl was ok since Lexi was so gentle about it. AT the end of the class, we have a picture of this little girl hugging Lexi!!!! I was just so proud of her!!
The kids all drew pictures of Lexi in their journals! It was such a great day.
That was the am class - and next week we get to go and meet the afternoon class - I cannot wait!!

Please share with us if your therapy dog, does wonderful things, to make people happy!!!..

That's great! Hopefully now that little girl will not have as much fear of dogs because she met such a great one!

Wow, you brought tears to my eyes with that story. What a gift for that little girl whose life might otherwise been shaped by nothing but fear of dogs. I'm as proud of Lexi as you are.

That brought tears to my eyes as well. What a wonderful story. I am hoping that there may be therapy work in our future. Augie loves kids. We just finished our Canine good Citizen class and he passed the 'practice' test - there isn't a 'real' testing opportunity for a few weeks yet. His main issue has been trying to sit still with people petting on him (he wants to stand up and put his paws on their legs). Our trainer has nicknamed him 'Mr. Wiggle Butt'. But, even though you can see it is very hard for him, he is sitting now so people can handle him without climbing on them. Your story is so inspirational - I really hope we can make it happen!

Good job Lexi!

On Monday, I took Cali to the assisted living/nursing home that we visit. I wish I had my camera, because we had a White Goldendoodle, a white BichonPoo mix and Cali who is white and cream. We said it was White Dog day!

I was so touched when a resident who has dementia, held Cali tightly and put her face right onto Cali's coat on her neck area for a few minutes.
She was "breathing" Cali. When the woman looked up at me, she had such a pleased expression and smile on her face.
We also visited with a 98 year old woman who is mentally fine! She was so thrilled to see Cali.
Another woman who has failing vision but very alert told us that "we made her day". There is a sign on the hallway that speaks of "moments of delight" and that is what we are able to provide these residents with our doggie visits!
We sometimes brighten the days of staff members too.

Laurie, your story about Lexi and the little girl that was afraid of dogs is very inspirational! Good job, Lexi!

Linda, You might check local dog shows to see if they are doing CGC testing there. I went to one at the Orange County Fairgrounds last weekend and they were testing. My Huggie hadn't taken any classes or practice tests for it. I just wanted to see what he needed to work on more, BUT HE PASSED! I am so proud of him because he is only 9 months old and the only class he's ever taken was a puppy/beginner class when I first brought him home. I just sent in the check and paperwork today to get the CGC certificate. I'm sure Augie can do it too. The test wasn't that difficult and Huggie seemed to know it was important to me to be a good boy and just did what the man asked us to do.

Nan, I love that Cali is bringing "moments of delight" to folks. I'm practicing with Huggie by bringing him to the residential care home where my 92-yr-old Mom lives. He makes everyone smile there whenever he visits. They all want to pet him. It's a good feeling!
