Santa brought struvites

The vet called this afternoon saying that Bella's urine sample was high for struvite crystals. On a scale of 1-4, she had a 4.

She was on Royal Canin SO a couple of years ago and that helped but lately we could tell she was hurting.

She will have to be on the Royal Canin SO 14 for the rest of her life. I thought I was doing well having her on the Wellness canned Simple. I hate to see her hurting and uncomfortable. I'm glad she likes the canned SO but she will have to have a mixture of canned and dry because the SO 14 only comes in dry. It has a balance of vitamins for her.

I wish Santa would have brought coal instead of this.

So sorry to hear about her crystals- but the SO does come in canned!
At least it did a few years ago when I had a dog on it.....
So check around with different vets and hopefully one can order it for you.
Happy Holidays!

I'm so sorry to hear this. I don't know anything about this condition and what causes it. I wonder of switching her to a better diet would help. I'm not familiar with Royal Canine.

I forgot to add that I also now only give them distilled water. My understanding from a specialist is that the struvite crystals are caused by a bacteria that latches on to extra minerals into layers, creating the crystals. Once they are gone, if you can keep the minerals down, there is a lesser chance of them developing.
