Camping

We're taking Nico on his first camping trip this coming week. We'll be staying 4 nights with 5 other families (all of whom have dogs) at a campground about 3 hours away. I'm bringing Nico's ex pen to set up outside, his crate, litter box, a bunch of toys, food and training treats. Since this is our first trip with him, I'm a bit apprehensive. Do those of you who have camped or otherwise traveled with your Havs have any advice or tips?

Do you have one of those plastic mats you could put under his x-pen?
We went camping with Daisy when she was 6 months old. Her favorite place to hang out was under the picnic table next to a tree. Little did we know the base of the tree was covered in sap! And so was Daisy by the end of the weekend!! Add to that lots of dust, twigs, etc. She was a complete mess and it took 3 baths in peanut butter to get all the sap out of her coat!
(and I think just as many baths to get the kids clean too~!!)

I would add to your list some water from home. A change in water can cause the same reactions as a change in food.

Have a great time and take lots of pictures.

Great picture of Brooklyn and Daisy.

Sap? Oh no, I would never even have thought of that. I had enough problems when Nico found gum and chewed it. I'll definitely be checking out the trees in the vicinity! And thanks for the suggestion on the water, that's another one that didn't occur to me.

Hey Camping sounds like great fun with a Hav. I can't wait for the time when My Wife and I can bring Radar Camping alghough I would be rather nervous with him as he is not reliable enough to "come" when called from such a long distance if he were to get away from us. I would have to keep him on the lead all the time and inside the Ex-pen like you have. I can't imagine a Hav with gum either all over them or having them swallow it. That would be an Odd Bowel Movement.....Ouch.

Luckily he didn't swallow the gum. My husband heard him chewing really loudly and discovered the gum while he was still just chewing it. He had found a piece under the sofa that one of the kids had lost and DH obviously wasn't watching him closely enough. It wasn't all over him - just on his face, but that was bad enough. He couldn't open his mouth because the fur above and below his lips was stuck together! It took a while to get it out, and Nico's mustache is a little shorter on one side than the other now! I never could have done it, but my 13 year old daughter is really good with the grooming stuff, and she did most of the gum removal.
