It's already starting...a sad story

This is a post from another forum I belong to...

I help out in a dog rescue.

This morning, yes, less than 24 hours after presents are first opened, we had 6, SIX!, dumped Christmas Day puppies at our doorstep.
Plus, a very pregnant mum dog that we found tied with a rope to the fence.

The shelter is full, I'm fostering two other puppies along with the four from this morning, and the pups were dumped less than a few hours apart by people we didn't see for more than a second.
Come in, dump puppy on the counter, leave.

Microchip-scanned all of them for breeder chips {registered, reputable breeders microchip all puppies leaving their kennels so they can be returned to the breeder if the owner dumps them at a shelter}, nope, no chips, so all were bought from backyarders, pet shops or puppy farms.
Great, no original homes for these darlings.

We have 10 very young puppies we have to find homes for in a time when everybody just wants an underage puppy from the store window, plus however many from the mum dog, and however many are dumped on us in the next few weeks "Oh the kids wanted a puppy for Christmas but we didn't realise it'd chew things/make noise/poo/wee/bite".

For those of us who believe in praying for animals....pray for these babies.
They will need it!

Truely sad, thank God we have people like you. Why people would give a puppy as a gift to someone they don't even know would want a dog ,is beyond me. ?

I don't where this shelter is. The poster doesn't list her location. I could find out if you want me to.

On a positive note, my father and his wife adopted a dog on Christmas eve, a litter of puppies from a friend from their church in Miami. It's certainly no Havanese (and I'm biased!) but at least it's a super cute Shih Tzu.. picture attached.

They named it "Nina" (small girl).. will meet it soon on my next trip down. That makes for three rescued dogs in their home, two King Charles's and now Nina.

Just curious, I could ask the moderators on our other pet sites to help cross-post and maybe get that shelter some help, adopters, fosterers.. donations.. who knows, can't hurt to share it though.

So many shelters in need this time of year ..

Super sweet Shih Tzu, I never thought I would like them, then Sharlene told me how sweet they are, and then along came Hav/Shih Tzu mix, Sir Winston, with legs long as a giraffe (some Hav/Shih mix!!) He does have the Shih Tzu color, a bit of a ST face, but not much. But he is super sweet as I hope Nina is! I agree there should be a freeze on all pet sales from Dec. 1st til Jan. 1st!! So sad...

Sir Winston sez "Non Basta Una Vita.

You're breaking my heart. I can't stand to read stories like this. The price for someone's thoughlessness is paid by these innocent souls who did nothing more than look cute enough for someone to irresponsibly take them.

It is such a big problem!!!! Plus the economy is bad so may good homes can not afford their pets. In So Cal they do put a freeze on dog shelter sales for about two weeks. Not here where I live the chips are a wonderful thing because a lot of dogs have a place to go so then there is room for others. The universal chip it great.
