We took our two little dogs (Pepper & April) for their morning walk and were accosted and then escorted home by three strays. A BIG, handsome pit bull and two small, mixed breed pups. One pup was limping as his left rear leg was injured (probably by a car). They came rushing off a front lawn scaring the bejeezus out of me for a moment. DH quickly picked up April. Pepper was safe in his stroller. I yelled at them, "No! Go home!" That stopped the charge at least and they approached in a much calmer, but still highly curious, manner. The pit bull was very confident, but not posturing.
Apparently these three have been hanging out in the same front yard for two days! No one is home and, as far as we knew, that family owned only two small dogs - no big ones. Animal control was called two days ago and had yet to swing by to pick them up. We have no idea how far they've come or how long they've been on their own. While the pit bull was very friendly I know that most people will behave fearfully toward the dog, possibly causing it to react aggressively. It breaks my heart to see this kind of situation. I can't begin to imagine how confused they must be.
When we got home DH had to hold the pit bull off while I struggled to get Pepper's stroller inside without letting our own dogs out. Once we were inside the strays took off after another guy walking by.
They're not my dogs and I can't take them in, I can only hope they make it home safely.
Thanks for letting me share.
