My puppy is arriving tonight!!!

Hi all. After the disappointment 6 weeks ago of not receiving the puppy I originally wanted because she was sick, I am awaiting my new puppy Bella who is due to arrive at the airport tonight.

The breeder said she will be small and she's a bit shy so I'm a little nervous about that but so very excited to finally be getting my first puppy, and an adorable Hav at that!!! (if I do say so myself, lol)

I've been reading lots of info about the breed but I'm sure I will have tons of questions.

Has anyone picked their puppy up at the airport? Any advice for me? She has only had 2 shots (she's 8 weeks) so not sure if I can let her walk around the airport on a leash. Also, how will I let her go potty before we make the 45 minute car ride home?
Thanks!

Hi Bella's mom! Congrats on your puppy!!! You must be so excited. There are lots of great and knowledgeable people here who can help you get through this time.

Is your breeder delivering her?

I can't wait to see pics.

Congrarts!!!! Good things are worth waiting for. I have never picked up a small puppy from the airport. We do fly adults thought. So I sure others who have will chime in.

No, the breeder is just sending her on her merry way all by herself via Delta PetFirst. I was a nervous wreck about it but she assured me she does it all the time and the puppy will be fine. She's got a 5 hour trip to New York - 2 planes :-( Poor thing will be happy to get out of her crate.

First if you can bring someone else with you to hold the puppy on the way home that will make her feel more secure. If not take her out of the crate she arrived in and be sure to bring extra bedding in case the ones she arrived in are soiled. Spend some time checking her out and offer her some water. When I brought Zoey home she got sick three times on my Mom so a towel on the lap is a good idea. 8weeks is to young to walk around public places because parvo can be on peoples shoes. Bring a piddle pad and put in in the crate maybe she will use it You could bring some damp wash cloths to clean up her face ect if she gets sick
We want pictures!

Good advice about the towel....hadn't thought of getting sick, was focused on pee and poop, lol. My 7 year old daughter is coming with me (it's a total surprise for her, she is going to lose her mind with excitement) so I'm sure she will want to hold her the whole way home.

I'm so excited for you and your family. I remember how disappointed you were and I bet that this puppy is the one that was meant for you.

I can't wait to see pictures. Good luck today!

Depending on how long of a drive you have and how alert the puppy will be your 7 year old may have problems holding her. If she starts wiggling and climbing on her put the pup in the crate and have the two of them in the back seat and she can put her fingers threw the wires.

HEre is a thread with some tips:

http://www.havaneseforum.com/showthr...hlight=airport

I'd say hand towels or paper towels, most certainly have someone drive you so you can hold her. I would take a pee pad and maybe use that, I don't think I'd want to expose a little wee puppy to any germs if I could avoid it.

I'd take a blanket, bottled water, a few treats.

Have a wonderful day! I know you are thrilled and I can't wait to see pictures
