You probably should transition the change over a couple of weeks to a month. Otherwise, you could have a pup with an upset tummy.

even though i switched to canned with no transition. i really didn't have a choice, django wasn't eating for a day or two and i needed to do something to get food in his belly. he did not have any issues.

I do food changes over about ten days so in tenths. First day the regular food is 90% with the remainder being the new food at 10%. Second day 80% - 20% and so on until the last day when the new food is 100%. Hope that makes sense. I'm a poop checker and if anything doesn't seem to be going right within the time frame such as constipation, or the opposite runny stools I'd extend the transition period period to be even longer.

Do you think that maybe he is just being picky and just holding out until he gets his way?

How long you need to transition depends highly on the dog.

Clover has an iron stomach. I could (and have) completely switched his food from one meal to the next with no issues what so ever. I think this hails from the several years I worked at a rescue, and he was eating whatever high-end food got donated that month

That being said, better to err on the side of caution than to clean your rugs!

Oh so true! Riley went through a terrible picky stage. I started feeding him 2x aday at the same time. When he refused the first meal, I picked it up and fed him nothing until the next. He finally caught on that he'd best eat while the eatin' was available.

I"d say slowly, a transition from wet to dry drastically can cause constipation, I wouldn't worry so much if they skip a meal here or there, they all seem to do that.
