Momi and Popi have just returned from their excellent cruise vacation, departing from England, transiting the Atlantic, and then stops in Boston, New York, Bermuda, and Florida. There were two service dogs aboard, a Black Lab and a Shih Tzu. Both owners were confined to wheel chairs. Both dogs were behaving appropriately and it was obvious they both had a lot of training. I had a chat with one owner who told me that service dogs are selected while puppies. Puppies that are less active, less dependent, but exhibit a lot of self confidence, make the best service dogs to master the skills for a life of service to their master.
The highlight of our trip was a visit to the beautiful estate of Kodi, Pixel, and Panda. Karen, Dave, and Havadoggies were wonderful hosts. We had so much to talk about and so little time. It was just glorious!
I thought Ricky was a big boy, but Kodi is even bigger! He is smart, agile, and playful. He has a lot more black coloring than what is apparent in pictures. He is the lord of the house.
Pixel is the smallest of the three, even though she is a full sister of Kodi but from a different litter. She is reserved but warms up quickly to strangers. She is the love bug of the bunch.
Panda fits between the other two, size-wise. Ricky would fall between Kodi and Panda. Ricky and Panda have very similar coloring and in all the same places too. Panda is the youngest but I get the impression she is the diva of the house. Momi was mightily smitten with her.
We were invited into Kodi's inner sanctum trophy room where he demonstrated some of his obedience skills. Most impressive! Karen was able to give me some very helpful tips that after just one day home, I am already practicing with Ricky and he is responding masterfully.
Our visit was way too short but it was thrilling. Not enough time to talk about everything or even take some pictures. It was a beautiful day with beautiful people and dogs. I will be asking questions of Karen over the next few days as a result of our discussions while there. Perhaps the Forum will find the answers interesting too.
It is just too bad that more of the Forum members can't get together and meet one on one, once in a while. Such a wonderful group of people live on this Forum.
Thank you so much Karen, Dave, Kodi, Pixel, and Panda for your hospitality and generosity (we owe you that bottle of Temecula Valley wine we forgot to take with us
). You are all special to us! Until we meet again,
Patrick and Eileen, Ricky's Popi and Momi.
