Help -separation anxiety

We just got our puppy a few weeks ago.

in the morning when we leave our dog alone he is fine (we come home at lunch to play with him and let him out to do his business)

But in the afternoon he gets raelly nervouse and is sopping wet from licking himself.

I am not sure if comming home at lunch is maybe a bad idea.. do u think it would be fine to leave him in his crate until we get home (this is about 8 hours)

He is fine with holding his bladder all night..

Any advise would be grateful

thansk!

I wouldn't quit coming at lunch time. He is much too young to hold it all day even though he is holding it at night. During the day he needs a break to go out and run around a little. Try leaving a Kong stuffed with something delicious for him in the afternoon to keep him busy. When we had a problem with separation anxiety I put a t-shirt that I had worn in the crate with Abby and that seemed to help, too. BTW, welcome to the forum!

This is really a tough one, I would NOT stop coming home at lunch, if you do...the problem will likely get worse.

Havanese don't do as well as other breeds in homes that work full time, or where they are alone a whole lot without people or other dogs...they really are companion dogs and want to be with you and separation anxiety, well..there are tons of threads very similar to this if you have the time to search the forum.

Keeping a dog in the crate for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week just seems like a bit much to me.

Is you pup old enough to go to dogie day care? Maybe their is one on your way back to work you could drop your pup off at or some one who could spend a few hr a day at your place.

Hello and Welcome. I'm from Kitchener, small world. No you definitely shouldn;t leave him for that long. Here is an article on this and you might want to look at someone coming in, daycare or other options. Thank you for the advise!

We went out and got him 2 kong toys. also my mother has agreed let Baxter spend the day at her house. she will also be at work but has a cocker spaniel. who will provide my dog company. I hope it will work out for now. the dogs due get along. i just hope my dog wont pick up any of the cocker spaniels bad habits (bagging for food)

My puppy is only 10 weeks and does not have his second set of vaccinations yet so I don't think i will be able to take him to doggy day care yet.
