What Is Your Furbaby Getting For Christmas This Year?

I need to start shopping for Willow. I get her toys, but she seems to lose interest with them rather quickly. I do pick some up and set them aside for awhile so that they get rotated, but it doesn't help much. Her favorite seems to be a blue monkey that her first owners actually gave to me when we got her! I wish I could find something she will truly love! She has the log with the little squirrels that all the dogs seem to like - except Willow. What are your doggies getting this year?

On Black Friday Amazon, the ONLY things I bought were dog presents. How bad is that?!?! I got 3 stuffed lamb chop toys and another set of toys that came three to a pack. ...And a bag for freeze dried chicken.

My dog likes the little burrow toys like the log you have but he definitely has favorites. If she doesn’t like the log, she might still like a different one. I buy the Zippy Paws brand, and the penguins are his absolute favorite - I’ve bought the set 3 times now (the white gets a little gross looking after a while). I think it’s because the black and white is so easy to spot on our floor.

His second favorite is the strawberry waffles, but maybe that’s familiarity because he’s had it the longest now. Least favorite so far is the monkey and banana burrow.

I did a terrible job of of encouraging our dog to play independently, and he really doesn’t play with toys by himself very much. It’s one of my biggest regrets, second only to how I handled his separation in the beginning. I was really focused on managing the separation anxiety, which was dumb of me, because finding ways to help him play independently may have really helped with his anxiety!

Other than those, all other toys are pretty much equal to my Hav - it’s all about the person playing along. A good crinkly water bottle and the back of the remote are probably preferred over other toys.

He does love the muffin tin game, if you haven’t tried that. You place treats in a muffin tin with different types of balls over the openings and the dog has to figure out how to roll the different balls off to get to the treat. It also got him to play around with the balls more. Some of his favorites were an old dryer ball, a wiffle Ball, and those extra big mardi gras beads.

Perry isn't getting Christmas presents as much as he's getting his semi-annual top-up of stuff (Well I guess you could call our mid-year shopping Christmas in July).

Perry loves his toys and plays with them a lot himself (last night when I was busy he was running around throwing his flying pig in the air and then chasing it - more than once he's thrown one of his toys so hard/ high that it's landed on a table or shelf that he couldn't reach) though he loves it when you throw it or kick it for him and if you're free he will drop it near you and stare at you til you do.

I don't rotate toys as much as he does it on his own. I do have some in reserve for when he needs distracting (mostly the ones in reserve still have their squeakers so are guaranteed to occupy him when nothing else will). But with the toys in his basket he rotates through them, even ones that it didn't seem like he was interested in at all when I got them. For example, he had very little interest in his kong bone when I first got it 2 years ago, but in the last month it's been his absolute favorite, even taking it in to bed with him. He dropped his love for his skinneeez raccoon for a while, but that's been pulled out of the basket again in the last week or so. He alternates through his antlers - he won't chew on a specific one for months then it's on the couch every day for a few weeks. And he's got a soft soccer ball that I've never seen him play with, but yesterday it was across the room from his basket which means he must have taken it out to play with during the day when he was home with my housekeeper.

So what is Perry getting this year? A few new skinneeez toys (not because he doesn't have enough but because I buy new ones so that both he and my Mom's scotty can play with them when we're in the US so that neither one is too possessive of "their" toy), a few new bags of "puppy crack" (aka Wellness Puppy bites), and a new pack of Himalayan chews. He's still got a surplus of antlers left.

Those Zippy Paws burrow toys look pretty cool. Plus they have free shipping for orders over $10 which isn't hard to reach! Thanks for the link. I'll check out the other toys you mentioned too.

I also like the muffin tin suggestion. I have some old, beat up ones!

Katiís #1 Most Valuable Toy is her Liíl Pals fuzzy bone. I buy them in bulk from Ryanís Pet Supply. She either has it or an antler or nylabone. She doesnít ruin the squeakers (although if Lollipop gets it, itís over). She just wears them out.
Lollipop likes anything with a squeaker, or crinkles or fuzzy she can pull or tails or thread or anything that Kati has tried.

I'm glad you found a toy that your dog loves! I have yet to find the perfect one for Willow but I keep trying!

Pardon the looks of these, but looks tell the story of a well loved toy. Both of these are Tux's favorites. They both squeak from pain over and over again after Tux runs and catches them and then returns them to me. At that point I tell him to drop it and push it backwards with ball of my foot down a slick hall floor thereby creating the effect of a potential prey on the run. it stays on the ground thru the entire chase mode. "Killing" it is such fun too. I repeat steps one and two until dog is exhausted. I never have to bend down or throw my shoulder out. LOL

I have two draws full of worthless toys, but I leave laying around. Patti picks one up once in a while and will carry it some place but doesn't play with the them.

When anyone comes into the room, she always picks up a toy or anything close by and takes it to them ... I guess it's her present. The other day Patti was on my bed and when I came in the room, she picked up a t-shirt laying on the bed to give me, wagging her tail excitedly. I don't now why she does that, except when she was younger and nipping a lot we were always putting a toy in her mouth.

I found those Kongs to be a big waste of time and money.

TOYS SHE LOVES
Patti does have a couple of things she LOVES! A long snake and long alligator that squeaks. She loves - loves squeaking and playing tug of war with these. She stands on her hind legs as we play tug-of- war, while grabbing and holding on with her front paws, squeaking the heck out of them. So cute and fun. I later figured out one reason she loved those toys is she was humping them. Oh well ... limited humping the alligator or the snake works for me. I had to hide them when she was in heat.

She, also, loves plastic water bottles to play with .... after they're empty of course. :-) I put macaroni noodles in them for noise. As a young puppy I wore out playing fetch before she did. Patti likes to just carry them around and chew the plastic because it makes noise. In addition, to the long alligator and snake ... empty plastic water bottles are the BEST.

She has a small ball she can hold in her mouth which squeaks that we play fetch with.

Patti's 9 months old now and has settled down a lot ... more like an adult dog. She still likes to play fetch but quits quicker than she did when younger.

I can always get her to come when I squeak the alligator. Running like bat-out-of-hell.
