Interesting color thing happening

Ollie is nine weeks old and has very dark chocolate and white parti coloring. Over the past few days, I've noticed several places where his WHITE hair has really dark roots coming in. It doesn't look like the dark chocolate color of the rest of his coat; rather, it looks like a dark charcoal gray?? Maybe?? I was waiting for his dark hair to get lighter, not the other way around!

Has anyone every seen this happen? I'll try to get a picture later and post it.

We had that happen to our Ollie, but he is a black and white. Every place where his black meets his white there is a layer of grey that separates the black from the white. He now looks like a tri colour, but i donít know if that is what you call it. Others more knowledgable on the forum could maybe let us know.

Oh wow, that's interesting. In looking closer at the new places on our Oliver, they maybe are the same dark chocolate as his other spots, but it's hard to tell.

I am wondering if your dog has the Belton gene, and that it is causing the situation you describe? Molly is a black and white parti with this gene. Over the years she has become more and more spotted in her white areas. In her case it is little tufts of black hair sprouting up in the white areas. At first they did look grayish but as they fill in she looks more like she is just spotted with black.
krandall and Lucindagh like this.

Oh, maybe that's what's happening. It looks like it's in quite a few places.

I just say take lots of photos. Kati, whose full name is (the) Apricot (one) Lynn, went from a solid apricot color to what is considered a silver champagne. Itís gorgeous: a soft undercoat of cream almost white with deeper color as you move to her ridge with shiny copper threads along her spine. But if sheís not clean or you are not close and she is next to her Bichon Frisť sister you will just see two white fluffy dogs. Oh well. I appreciate it and Iím her mama. Lol

Oooo, silver champagne sounds lovely! It really is amazing how much their color can change.
