lap dog finally

Just wanted to let you know that it only took about three and a half years for our Shama to turn into a lap dog. She will finally lie on DH's lap while he's watching TV. Until recently, she's always preferred to be lying on the ground, whether in a bed, on a pillow, or on the wooden floor. We're happy with this new development!

I guess at 6 1/2 months we were premature in hoping for that. She is usually laying at our feet or in her bed when she’s not busy playing. She used to go into the x pen, but never on into the crate for a nap. Not doing that anymore. She does entertain herself pretty well but her newest gig is to stand up & paw my leg like crazy to get attention. She is very sweet & kissy when she’s picked up, but is very jealous of Jesse getting attention now. Jesse is still quick to correct Abby, & Abby still idolizes her. In the morning Abby is beside herself happy to see Jesse again. If I had to use one word to describe her it would be joyful.

Willow is a lap dog on her terms only. She almost always wants to sit by me on the sofa and will get in my lap frequently. She usually will get in my lap if my lap is covered with my lap robe, which it usually is this time of year. It's down filled so it's nice and poofy and I think it pads my legs a bit and makes it softer for her.

I would describe Oliver much the same way (but he's a lot younger). He will stay in my lap if he's really, really sleepy, but usually puts himself to bed in his crate for naps. He wants my attention every minute but usually to play, not to cuddle. He's super joyful and loves everybody, but rarely sits still long enough to cuddle.

In cold weather, even if the temperature inside the house is the same Winter, and Summer, they seem to look for laps more than in hot weather.

Little seven pound Zoey is a lap dog. Especially, when I am trying to work on laptop or pet Kosmo and Lucy. More accurately I would call her a resource guarder.

My Lucy is jumpy and happy, and lap time is measured in seconds at six months old.

Kosmo patrols the perimeter for dangers, and because he is more distant it is always a special pleasure to suddenly realize he is by my side nuzzling my shoulder and in need of a return nuzzle.

Personalities vary, but happy is probably most true to standard in my opinion.

I actively trained my dog to lay on my lap and my kids told me they were super jealous. I told them they were welcome to do the same but I think they were letting me have my own thing with the puppy Over time I noticed he’s a really light sleeper, and I think he is a little more peaceful resting elsewhere, so I stopped pushing it. I hope it returns when he’s a little older! Right now I settle for an occasional chin on my shoulder. He’s always next to me, but nothing beats having him lay a paw or his chin on me, or scooting close and then rolling over for a belly rub!
