For his crate in our bedroom, which he uses primary at night, we use a 1" thick, fluffy, flat mat. He also his his "blankie" and "teddy cow" in there which he has had since his earliest days as a puppy. Ricky is a digger too. He can't rearrange the mat because it is exactly the same size as the bottom of his crate. But the blankie and teddy cow get moved around to his liking every night. He often uses teddy cow as his pillow.
Another thing, we completely cover his crate at night, birdcage style, with a throw. We keep our house very cool at night during the winter (for a number of reasons) and want to keep Ricky out of drafts. The throw keeps Ricky's body heat in his crate. He wakes up in the morning all toasty warm. The covered crate is the equivalent of a canine den or cave in the wild. For Ricky, it is instinctual.
Ricky also has a daybed which we leave in our den. He uses that primarily during the day. It is a big, bolstered affair. He digs at that too. His toy basket is nearby and he drags out his favorite toys and puts them in his daybed with him.
In my opinion. Havanese find it more important to hang out with their human pack than what kind of bed they sleep in. So Jackie, I wouldn't stress over Willow's bed. She will be happy sleeping in whatever, as long as she is near you.
