Sleeping Crate Bed Recommendations

I need to replace Willow's bed in her sleeping crate. I'm looking for a bolster bed. The current one we have has a removable pillow. She likes to dig a bit and and seems to get the pillow scrunched up to her liking. So I'm thinking of getting another one like it. The Amazon reviews are all over the board and now I'm overwhelmed with reviews and information. Then I started thinking about maybe an ortho bed but I don't know if she would miss the pillow.

So now, forum community, I'm asking what you use in the sleeping crate. I know she likes something cuddly and cushy and seems to like to have a bolster to snuggle up against, so just a mat or big pillow wouldn't do.

So far I buy all of my beds at Home Goods. I have found bolster, flat, ortho - I think they have one of everything most of the time! I always intended to buy a nice one when our Hav was completely potty trained, but it turns out I like having them all over the house. I also like that since most of them are between $20-30 dollars, I can wash it regardless of whether or not itís actually labeled as machine washable and if it doesnít go well I wonít be out the cost of an expensive bed.

My Havís favorite ďbedĒ right now is the laundry hamper my husband stole from my closet and turned sideways to replace an odds and ends ďdenĒ my kids build. They needed the odds and ends back. Now my kids want to make a permanent pet teepee, so when we finish that project maybe Iíll get my hamper back!

This is what I bought for Zumba. She also prefers a bolster, and has to rearrange her bed just the way she wants. The thing is, this bed is not soft or pliable, but she will still try - it is so humurous to hear her digging away when we go to bed - and I do believe it is her favorite out of the three different kinds she has. In fact, when I had to get her a bigger bed, this is the one I chose to get a second of:

For inside the crate I just use a towel. I've used beds (he tore it up) and big blankets, but he seems to like to be able to move from the fluff to the flat floor (maybe for temperature regulation?) and so we're back to just having a towel so that he can lie on it when he wants and push it out of the way the rest of the time.

For his crate in our bedroom, which he uses primary at night, we use a 1" thick, fluffy, flat mat. He also his his "blankie" and "teddy cow" in there which he has had since his earliest days as a puppy. Ricky is a digger too. He can't rearrange the mat because it is exactly the same size as the bottom of his crate. But the blankie and teddy cow get moved around to his liking every night. He often uses teddy cow as his pillow.

Another thing, we completely cover his crate at night, birdcage style, with a throw. We keep our house very cool at night during the winter (for a number of reasons) and want to keep Ricky out of drafts. The throw keeps Ricky's body heat in his crate. He wakes up in the morning all toasty warm. The covered crate is the equivalent of a canine den or cave in the wild. For Ricky, it is instinctual.

Ricky also has a daybed which we leave in our den. He uses that primarily during the day. It is a big, bolstered affair. He digs at that too. His toy basket is nearby and he drags out his favorite toys and puts them in his daybed with him.

In my opinion. Havanese find it more important to hang out with their human pack than what kind of bed they sleep in. So Jackie, I wouldn't stress over Willow's bed. She will be happy sleeping in whatever, as long as she is near you.

I have to laugh at all the beds some of your doggies have! Willow has 6 beds plus two other places that aren't meant to be beds but are. She has two crates she uses, a raised cot, a little cuddle bed, a throw across the top of the back of a loveseat for her to use to look out the window on sleep on, and another bolstered throw on the seat of the same loveseat. Plus she will perch on top of the pillows at the end of the loveseat and also jump up on a foot rest where I keep my folded down laprobe. Oh, I forgot one! There is another bed in the master bedroom! So that makes 7 beds plus the two additional sleep areas. She uses them all at least once per day too!

Edit: Forgot another bed! She doesn't use this one very much as it's in the RV. Only used when we are camping. So that makes 8 beds!

Yes!

Since my Hav is my little shadow, I like having a bed nearby so I donít have to move them around. Otherwise he lays on the hard floor. I actually donít think he cares one bit about laying on the floor, but it makes me happy to see him curled up on a bed.

You know whatís funny is when my kids were little I would have told them to leave my laundry hamper alone and build their tents/forts/dens with their own stuff. But if theyíre setting something up for the puppy, itís a completely different story! Our dog has a lot of beds, and we definitely make sure he has his own special spot in every room of the house!

Sometimes Perry prefers the floor - I think it's the temperature. He'll be lying on the couch or in his bed in the living room and then will pop out and lie on the floor for a while, then back into the bed. Same in his crate (which is why we use a towel instead of a full bed) - he will lie on it, but then at times he'll scrunch it up and push it into the back of the crate so that he can lie on the (cool?) floor of the crate without a cover.

I use these. They both love to dig and fluff. If I put 2 in each crate they can bunch them up like a pillow. Willow likes to go under covers. Aaaand if someone has an accident she can bury it...
