Registering with AKC

Scarlett was spayed last week so I now have the papers to register her. She will obviously never be bred so is it necessary to register her? I know it will give me her pedigree but are there other benefits?

I am not sure of any benefits except that I wanted to get the pedigree certificate. I have them for all of my RIP dogs, framed on the wall. I look at them often and remember the great dogs that they were. So I did it for my Shadow too. Also to register his microchip.
I had to pay a late fee since I didn't do it promptly! The paper registration said a late fee of $40? maybe, but on line, was $5, I think.

IMO, when I pay for a purebred dog, I WANT the registration papers.

If you ever decide you want to do any companion events with her, if you don't have her papers, you would need to register her as a crossbred. If she ever gets lost and you have registered her microchip with AKC, they can help you find her. ...And while it might not matter to you, what if something happens to you, and she ends up placed with someone who it does matter to? It's easy and inexpensive to do now. It is difficult (sometimes impossible) to do later.

And that's why I asked! Thank you!
