My Protector

Well this was the funniest but also the coolest thing I have seen Radar do so far. So he's playing on the floor with his toys and I'm watching TV and there's this noise in the hallway. Well immediately Radar gets up looks over at the door and he emits this really low growl and then moves over to where I was sitting and sat there infront of me and just kept watching the door constantly. It was pretty cool to see the protective instinct he was exhibiting. My little 6.5lb Radar System on alert......

Cute! I'm always so flattered when Gucci tries to protect me. It has become a *daily* thing now. My husband wanted her to be a watchdog, so he really encouraged that when she was little and according to my husband, she's the "best watchdog he's had so far", better than his husky and spitz

Her hearing is so good, she knows when someone pulls in the driveway, or walks by the house. My husband is neurotic about home security, so he's tickled she is so good at it.

Her barking doesnt' bother me, especially when she's just trying to let me know that someone is here

Radar has begun periodically eyeing the door now. He'll be playing and then all of a sudden he'll just stop and look at the door and then walk over to me and sit down infront of me and stare at the door. When I sit at the computer Radar lays by my feet.

My boys have all been that way, and sometimes it is very amusing. Of my current dogs, Martha is always on high alert for everyone.

When Kristin's Lito lived with us, he was such a sweetheart and loved all dogs, or so I thought. Two different times, we were out at dog shows in the motorhome and had the main door open for fresh air with the screen door closed. Both times, he saw a Mastiff, and charged through the screen door, pushing it open, to go ward off the "bad dog". The crazy thing is that he thought he could take on the huge Mastiff and the owner had a hard time holding his dog back while one of us ran after our goofy little Havanese that was tempting himself to become dog bait.

Been there, done that a few times with Gucci! She thinks she is a much BIGGER BADDER dog than she is!

You all should see her try to take on the Brittney Spaniel next door. It scares me and my husband half to death. We've tried to let them play a few times when the neighbors came over for dinner and a swim, but it gets WAY too rambunctious for my liking.

She also wanted to charge a bulldog a few weeks back! EEKS! I'm afraid her judgement is a bit off. lol

Napoleon complex? lol

Nico takes on the 90 pound labs next door once a week or so. He's not protecting anything, as they're all just playing, but he really tries to give it to them. Then he'll get flicked by a labrador tail and he'll go flying, and he'll look real surprised, like "how did that happen? I'm as big and bad as they are!" Then he goes back for more.

Pepper does this too. He LOVES to wrestle and harass the goldens, two in particular. They play indoors and out. It's fun to watch.

One afternoon I opened our slider to let the dogs out and two of them started rough-housing right away. They knocked me sideways a bit and Pepper went off on them. I couldn't believe it. Both dogs were startled and broke it up. I guess my little guy was looking out for me.
