Breeders

I’ve been having a terrible time finding a Havanese puppy mostly because of the breeders I’ve been meeting. I have found them to be extremely difficult to deal with. Am I the only one?

No, you are not the only one! The breeders seem to be a breed of their own often.
This is show season and they are often busy with that. And tending to a lot of dogs. And life in general.
My boy has been with me for 1 year exactly so I had a similar experience. But a few of the breeders I spoke with were just wonderful and helpful. There were a couple that were complete @@@holes.
Where are you, Nora? Maybe someone can steer you in the right direction.

thank you for your response. I am in SE Florida on the East coast between West Palm Beach and Ft Lauderdale.
I would like to find a rational, flexible, and sensible breeder. I am seeking a Havanese puppy with light coloring (white, tan, red, etc).

Do you know anyone?

Jennifer Manders is super nice. She taught me how to cut my puppyís hair even though I didnít get the puppy from her. She had two little puppies left, the cutest little black and white males! Not the colors you want, but they were beautiful. If you get a puppy from her by chance, contact me. Iím. Iím not far from her, and Zumba loves playing with other Havanese.

Best of luck with your search!

There is no excuse for someone taking your deposit and then not selling you a puppy without returning the deposit. OTOH, a deposit is not a GUARANTEE of a puppy, for a number of reasons. Good breeders do their best to match the right puppies with the right homes. If they don't have the right puppy for you, you might not get a puppy this time... but in that case, you should certainly get your deposit back. Many breeders don't even take a deposit for that reason... they keep a waiting list and keep their prospective puppy owners informed of where things are, but many good breeders will not make a decision on where the puppies will be placed, or even how many puppies they are placing, until the puppies are 8 weeks old, and can be assessed for structure and temperament.

There are so many great Havanese breeders, it is worth finding one that you feel comfortable with, even if it means traveling for them.

My deposit wasn't returned, but I'm the one who decided not to get the pup. I'm guessing that's standard. I'm hoping to find a good breeder as well.

I hope you found a nice breeder. We got our puppy from a good breeder in Ft Piece, but needed to wait until she had a litter.
