Puppy Heaven?

Yesterday, when letting Zumba run around the back yard, I could see her repeatedly rolling and rubbing her entire body gleefully on this section of land. Went over to investigate since I could not figure out what she was doing and saw that our neighborhood herons had left a deposit in our back yard, which Zumba had found.
Oh, my gosh! Did she stink!! I picked her up and took her straight to the utility sink for a bath.

Though I had no idea, I am thinking this is normal for a dog? Later on, I had to laugh at how happy she was to find that pile of poop. It could have been psychosomatic, but my husband and I thought we could still smell that stink for awhile after her bath. Should I have used something special to clean her?

My understanding is that this is normal. Ricky does it vigorously all the time. As it was explained to me by a trainer, it is instinctual. In the wild, a dog would roll in the odor of its prey to cover its canine odor. That way, by mimicking the odor of its prey, it could sneak up to it more easily for the kill. Survival of the fittest.

The only thing bad my Havanese Mia will roll on is dead worms. My male yorkie however rolls on every disgusting possible thing he comes across especially anything dead. I didnít know if males or certain breeds were more prone to do this.

I thought Skye was the only worm hunter!! He will paw furiously at the grass and then rub his face on the worm or the ground where the worm was. I once even saw him making like a robin and tugging on a worm.

This has been an interesting thread! I have enjoyed, and learned from, the input.

Canīt always get into the Havanese Forum. The Pop-up ads have become outrageously intrusive.

As far as rolling on things, worms are Miaís favorite. As far as hunting goes, nothing beats a lizard! She goes nuts. Races out onto the deck periodically throughout the day and goes crazy running under all the bushes in the yard. Sadly, there are a few tailless lizards around here...

What is it about worms?? Che only rolls in worms, ignores things like goose poop etc. (all previous dogs LOVED things like rolling in fresh goose poop...). But worms? Even teeny bits of dried worms...

I don't get any pop-up adds. I don't know that I'm running a pop-up blocker, but am running two layers of protection. A lot of forums without paid subscribers make their money with adds. I did have to quit going to some forums because there were so many pop-up ads, that I could never even get in.

Maybe that's why the participation on these forums has dropped off so much.
