Getting second dog

Hello all -

I haven't been on much since we got Loki through puppyhood and CGC test. He turned 3 in April and is a prince of a pup. We are now seriously considering a little brother for him. Talked to breeder today, there are 2 boys born last Thursday that are available. Picture below is of the 2 boys.

i know most everyone is happy to have 2 or more. Is anyone sorry they got a second and why?

If we go forward, I will be back with lots of questions about adding a second dog.

Thanks.

Two little Parti boys! How exciting! Good luck with your decision on getting a second pup.

Nope. No regrets at all. HOWEVER, do it for YOU, not because you think Loki would like it. While Kodi has adjusted to having sisters just fine; the way an older brother adjusts to having younger sisters, I am also POSITIVE that he would have m=been JUST as happy, possibly moreso, if we only had him. WE are happy that we have the three of them, so we are glad we did what was right for US, but I am very clear in y mind that while we didn't HARM Kodi in any way, we also didn't get the other dogs "for" him. We got them because WE wanted them.

I agree with Karen. With our Ollie though I think it has been good for him too, because he has a tendency to be a couch potato and at 5 years old he can act like an old man. Quincy gets him going and he plays a lot more than I think he would with just us coaxing him to move. You can tell he is enjoying it and he even starts things sometimes. In that respect it has been good for him.

I agree with Karen, but I also know that Shama would be more active if she had a sibling. DH doesn't want another dog, so I just try to have little dogs over for play dates (which involve less play now that Shama is older). I just wish there were more Havanese in the area . . . Good luck with your decision. I will look forward to updates!

Oh, Iím not saying that having two little sisters has been BAD for Kodi... I donít think it has been. I just donít think he cares. I think he would have been JUST as happy without them! LOL!

I don't think not having a brother would be bad for Loki but he does love my sister's Portuguese Water Dog. They just don't see each other enough. When we do see them they play and sleep curled up together. It is funny to see big black dog with little white dog. He will just have to get used to sharing me though I am already telling DH he needs to be the puppy's person. He won't be though - mama will be.
