Extremely Shy 6 month old

Zoey is my first Havanese. I have had many different breeds over the years and all of them as puppies very friendly with people and other animals. My Zoey is cautious with other dogs but does go up to them but there are only 2 dogs she will actually play with. As far as people goes she won't go to anyone except myself. She goes up to people and even sometimes kisses their hand but won't let them hold her or even pat her. I was hoping she would improve with age but it has been a very slow and slight change. I have been doing everything to socialize her with new people and dogs everyday . Has anyone had the same issues with their puppy?

There are so many perspectives on this, if youíre concerned I might consider a consultation with a trainer to get a professional opinion based on observation. My Havanese was cautious for a long time. I read that training and games can help build confidence so I focused on that. I think keep introducing her to whatever you can, but donít push. Let her choose her distance and whether she goes to the new people or things, while you model how comfortable you are and make everything seem really enticing.

Also, I have found that my Havanese, even as a puppy, preferred to play with the bigger, gentler dogs. As an almost adult he gravitates now towards large breed, older puppies because their energy levels seem to match his. I hate the stereotype, but we just donít come across as many small, friendly dogs. Itís a hard call with a tiny puppy because you do have to be cautious, but I wouldnít force the issue if she does approach them and then leaves because she might be sensing or responding to legitimate cues.
