Exclamation HCA - 2018-2019 Rainbow Bridge Survey

** A Request from the Havanese Club of America **

Dear Members of the Havanese Community:

The Health Committee of the Havanese Club of America (HCA) needs more data for the 2018 – 2019 Rainbow Bridge Survey. Please take time to participate in the survey described below, and also pass this information along to as many Havanese owners as you can – encouraging their participation. You need not be an HCA member to participate.

The 2018 – 2019 Rainbow Bridge Survey is a new and more detailed follow-up survey, distinct from the 2017 Longevity Survey. The 2017 Longevity Survey only asked how long your Havanese lived, without details as to why they died. Now we want to know all we can about the cause of death -AND- we want to know about dogs who are still living and battling life threatening diseases. So, even if you have participated in the earlier 2017 Longevity Survey – we really need your help to gather this information for the 2018-1019 Rainbow Bridge Survey.

The Rainbow Bridge Survey will let us understand the underlying cause(s) of the distribution of lifetimes observed previously in the Longevity Survey. To do so, we need to isolate the most frequent causes of death as a function of age, sex, and lifestyle within the entire Havanese population. The second part of the new survey allows one to provide information on any ongoing health issues you might have with your dogs.

A preliminary analysis of the first set of responses to the Rainbow Bridge Survey looks extremely encouraging and leads us to believe that with additional responses, we can narrow down the primary life-threatening health issues faced by Havanese. This information will not only help us learn more about our breed’s health, but will provide the HCA a much clearer direction to focus future donations for research towards cures and/or better treatments. And of course it has the potential to lead to longer, healthier and higher quality lives for our Havanese.

If you have not already contributed to the Rainbow Bridge Survey, or would like to update information, please see the link below. The survey takes just a few minutes to complete and can be submitted electronically, or printed and mailed back to us.
