Make and female?

I have an 11 year old female but we lost her best friend a few months ago: two females who were companions for over 10 years. We are getting another havi soon. We can get a male in 4 weeks or a female in about 10 weeks.
I have always had 2 dogs together and always females.

Any thoughts on a female and male combo? Of course the male will be neutered at the right time and my female was spayed at 6 months. Thank you for any advice you can provide.

The older female may boss a boy around a bit, but Havanese boys are lovers, not fighters. They are actually MORE likely to get along than two females.

I think you’ll be fine. I’ve had both combinations and I think the difference between females and males is exaggerated as long as both dogs are socialized w other dogs period. My Oliver (a boy) is SUCH a love. He’s a teeny bit scared of dogs but oddly made friends with the neighbor’s giant boxer! I def don’t let them off leash despite this gentle giant’s sweet disposition, but he was afraid of a female schnauzer lol. Oliver will go up to any person and flip over for a belly rub, and loves everyone. He is clearly closer with me as he follows me around the house, hops on
My lap etc. but I definitely don’t think a male puppy would be a problem with an older female. It all comes down to individual dog’s temperament, and finding a breeder with the best match and who has socialized to meet your needs is key. For example, one of the biggest reasons I chose our breeder (from other equally reputable breeders) was that she had 5 children. I have 6 kids and needed a dog who was definitely good with kids. In fact, the breeder’s toddler burst into tears when we picked him up! She just loved him so much!
