Question Anal Glands

HI All,
I have some questions RE: anal glands. My 3.5 y/o Havi girls seems to scoot and lick an awful lot even after I have gently expressed her glands. (within a few days, usually). Is this a common thing with Havanese dogs? How often is it OK/safe to do it? I know there are some who are opposed to the practice butt the scooting and licking are not ok with me, she's in obvious discomfort.

I have been thru the abscessed gland routine with another dog and would really like to avoid this traumatic awfulness with her.

Are there any supplements that are wroth the effort/expense?

Does pumpkin puree really long does it take to become effective?

thanks very much for your input!

If your dog is licking and scooting, I would take her to the vet and have it done right.

I also suggest a follow up trip to the vet. My puppy had anal gland issues that were secondary to some sensitivities to food and something in his heartworm meds, I think it was actually the flavoring. Since those issues were resolved hes only needed his glands expressed once in 8 months or so, and it was after he had diarrhea from eating too many treats that were left open. When they have healthy bowel movements i really think it makes a difference in tiny puppies that are still figuring out their bodies or are prone to anal gland problems.
