I seem to have caused concern....

I have been asked to start a new thread regarding my response to "how much did you pay" thread and to provide more information, so here it is.
My short response did not provide enough information and seems to have stirred up a hornets nest of concern, so I will give more detail to help put some minds at ease - I hope
I began my search about 2 years ago for another house dog. I have had dogs my entire life, and my grandmother was a breeder many years ago. I now have grandchildren and wanted to find a pet that would love them on their visits, and I know "most" small dogs can be quite possessive and not take kindly to intruders running amuck in "their" house. I had a maltese in the past, which I LOVED, but they can be a little fragile, so the search began.
I came upon the Hav breed and knew that was what I wanted and I checked them out up and down and sideways. Then I began searching for a breeder, and yes I wanted a breeder, not just a Hav owner with a pup. I checked out many and that is when I set my budget for $1200-$1600 (which my husband thought was INSANE, but being the good man he is, said ok).
I spoke with a few breeders and then found the breeder of my boys. We spoke many times on the phone regarding all the questions I had regarding the breed, etc. Then I researched her answers and made sure they were in line with other opinions. I even researched if there were any complaints about this breeder.
Well, she had a black/white pup that would be ready around in Dec, which would be my birthday, Christmas and wedding anniversary gift. Well, she decided to keep her for breeding. I don't know if this is normal for breeder to change their mind once a pup starts developing, and is considered of higher quality.
I really wanted a girl dog, since I had never had a small boy dog, this is all I knew. Well, she had an older female and some males she wanted me to look at, so I agreed. Here is where I guess I could have just stopped and started another route, but the story continues.
We did meet "in the middle". I asked why the older dogs and she stated there was an illness (cancer) in the family and she had two litters come in that she was unable to devote time to placing. Well, there I am with three white puff balls that I wanted to bring them ALL home The girl was adorable! The more we discussed the more I decided I needed TWO dogs since I was still working full-time and did not want to leave one home alone. The boys dogs were originally $800 since they were older, but I was willing to pay. Figured I had a $1600 limit, so two at $800 would work. I really don't know why she changed her mind on the price, but she dropped to $400 and told me that if I took the boys I could have them both for that price. Thus my previous statement "I got a deal" which seemed to invoke some negative thoughts for a few.
I had to sign a neuter contract, which from my research I know is common. I have registry papers showing the dogs parents and their registry numbers. However, I never registers my dogs because that is just not important to me. I took them to the vet right away and they checked out great. One is 7lbs, one is 10lbs. I was a little concerned over the little one, but I'm guessing the must have been the litter runt. The vet said he was fine and they both received their one-year check up and are still great. They will both be 3 next month.
Training them has been fun and easy. The only negative I have right now is that they will NOT jump up on my lap and I have to bend over to pick them up, but I think of this as a positive too because they won't jump on the furniture at all Gibbs (the bigger and alpha one) is pretty much mine. He takes every step I take and always wants in my lap. Probie is kind of a loner and is happy curled up in his bed, but does like men more than women. He is also the instigator in play time. He will pull and tug on Gibbs ear and tail until Gibbs decides to start chasing him
Okay, now I could go on and on with their antics. However, I will close and I hope this help to settle some negative feelings out there. Here are some pictures as requested too. I have put some from when I first picked them up and up to the recent snow storm, which they loved.

Wow, I didn't realize people got upset about your post. Myself I thought there was more to it and you didn't go in to details. There are breeders that will sometimes change their mind so it is better when they don't promise which one. Sometimes a breeder will reduce the price for the right person. I think the breeder was happy to put the dogs in a good home. Thanks for the story it made me smile.

I think your story is wonderful and I believe things happen for a reason. You wound up with those two because they were meant to be with you. I'd say you were all lucky.

Your Havanese are very nice looking! So does getting two mean You are not getting a birthday present
I am glad you got the chance to write your story it makes more sense this time around It sounded like you were expecting a pup and did not know tell you met them that they brought the boys!
I even thought that they might have been stolen or something . It is funnie how the written word can get misconstrued . How long have you had them?

Which one is in that last picture - looks just like Abby. I showed it to my husband and he thought it WAS a picture of Abby - except we didn't get any snow! Both of your dogs are beautiful!

It sounds like you and the breeder came together at the right time in your lives and it has worked very well. I believe I said in the other thread...don't confuse quality with cost or something to that affect. Your dogs are darling and I'm glad it's worked out so well for you

Suzi, the dogs were for all 3 events in December I have had them for a little over a year now. From what I hear from folks who adopt older dogs, they both have come a long way in a short amount of time. I can't move without them under my feet and I have to put them in their pen to sweep and mop!
