Lifting Leg/Full Coat What a Mess!

Skye is the first really long haired dog I have had. We are keeping him in a full coat. He is reaching maturity and has started lifting his leg to pee against trees or our stone wall instead of stretching out to pee. This is causing the urine to either splash off his target back onto his "skirt" or dribble down onto it. We keep his belly and the area around his plumbing shaved. How do those of you with full coated males handle this? I don't want to have to bathe him every time he pees!!!

Fortunately, Kodi has always had a rather "delicate" leg lift, or else has just stood to pee, so he has never peed on himself. But this IS an on-going problem with some males.

Is he just starting to mark? I ask because mine wasnít especially coordinated when he first started marking. He is quite the little expert now and is fastidious in his own hygiene so in time he learned how to aim and balance just right.

I donít know if this is normal but if there are any drips from marking, it seems to be much less concentrated and doesnít have a strong pee smell so itís much easier to deodorize. But, mine doesnít have a really long coat, and the hair on his thighs is fine and much thinner than the rest of his coat.
