Teeth Cleaning

Little Pixel had her teeth cleaned today. The first of mine to need it, in 10years. She’s only 4 1/2, and we brush their teeth regularly, but she’s the smallest, and has the smallest jaw. It’s really hard to even GET a brush (even the smallest pediatric brush) into the back of her mouth. The good news is that although she had a fair amount of tartar build up on the outside of those back molars, otherwise, her teeth were in good shape, as were her gums. They said to keep doing what we are doing!

She was a sleepy girl for the rest of the day, and has wanted LOTS of snuggle time with her daddy this evening!

I am glad things went well for the cleaning. Molly is almost 6 and I think it may be time for her first cleaning too. At 7.5 lbs. her mouth is also extremely small and I can only get back there with gauze over my finger with the paste on it!

Sounds like you have been very fortunate with only tartar and glad to hear that Little Pixel is doing well! My first Hav was 10 pounds and also a small jaw. Despite brushing his teeth regularly, he still developed pockets and foci of infection found when he had his annual teeth cleaning by a veterinary dentist. One year he also required a bone graft. Eventually, I ended up brushing him twice a day, including his palatal surface and his dental health markedly improved. Lessons learned the hard way- So, now with my 10 month old Teddy, I brush twice a day, palatal surfaces included- no exceptions
