How many puppy distemper shots should be given needed?

My puppy has had 3 puppy distemper shots and according to my breeder that is all that is needed and that I should not do more. But several vets that I have consulted with say 4 puppy distemper shots are needed. What do most others do? thanks.

My younger dogs each only had two distemper and parvo vaccinations, then were titered. I would never give 4. I've never even HEARD of giving 4. The most I've EVER heard recommended was 3. Once you have a titer, you have a titer.

Just after my 3rd, a more virulent strain of Parvo came along, and a third Parvo vaccination was recommended.

Our older dog had parvo - awful experience - but he survived after 4 days in intensive care isolation and a huge vet bill. We brought home a new puppy in August. This time our vet recommended 4 distemper/parvo vaccinations. 4 seems to be the new standard. Zorro will be 19 weeks tomorrow and I am just starting to not watch him everyday to see if he is sick and we only let him touch the floor outside the house last week.

I do not know anything about this, however it looks like Jean Doddís protocol recommends up to four and I thought she was a minimalist with regard to vaccines.

Dodds ..."The absolute best parvo prevention of course is appropriate vaccination. Dr. Doddsí protocol calls for parvovirus and distemper vaccinations at 9-10 and 14-15 weeks of age, plus a third parvo booster at 18 weeks of age. Titer testing is then measured a year later followed by re-titering every three years thereafter. "

I don't see where Dodds recommends up to four distemper shots?

You are correct. I misread it. I think I looked at Parvo instead.
