chew recommendation

As a puppy, Shama loved pig's ears and bully springs and himalayan yak chews. There was a time that she also liked water buffalo horn (we cut the one we purchased into four smaller slices). Lately, we haven't really been giving her chews. Today, we remembered that we bought these beef tendons at the Minnesota State Fair, and we gave her one. She loves it! She's been chewing on it for the past 90 minutes! Now she "buried" it in one of her dog beds and is having a huge drink.

She had it about two hours yesterday, and we just gave it to her again. After two more hours, we'll take a picture of it next to the untouched one from the bag to give you a size comparison. DH said the website suggests this chew is good for teeth cleaning . . .

For the first 90 minutes today, she just "buried" it in a pillow then guarded it. Then she decided to chew on it again. After about an hour, she has nearly finished it, and she went to get a drink. We took it away until another day. Each day, she drank more than a bowl of water after chewing on the tendon.

Shama still has the very first cow ear we gave her. Every once in a great while, she chews on it. It just lives in her pen waiting to get some loving from her . . . So far, we've been happy with the achilles. She didn't get any today, however . . .

Scout and Truffles favorite treat are beefy tendons. That's a pretty big tendon little Shama has in her mouth! 😊 Our pet store has long thin tendons, which do not last long. I ordered NULO chicken/apple jerky from Chewy. The jerky is going to be delivered tomorrow and I hope they like it. My friend says it's her dogs favorite treat.

I guess those tendons come in different sizes. Our pet store has them loose so I try pick the long thin ones. The dentist said not to let them chew anything that cannot be indented by your thumb nail. I don't want the furkids to have anymore tooth fractures! The tendons are hard but soften when they are not thick. NULO chicken/apple jerky just arrived so I'll try those tonight.

Hi all. I just was reading the current BARK magazine and they have an add from Earth Animal (full page) about their new NO HIDE The Feast. A special kind of No Hide Chew. There are 3 combinations-Turkey,Pumpkin and Cranberry. Has anyone heard of them or these newer treats. They are at pet stores it says and on earthanimal.com. I want to check it out but also wanted some input from the forum. They say they are natural, wholesome, easy to digest and long lasting. Sounds interesting, safe and healthy?

Terri and Heather, I haven't heard of either of those treats. I'm always interested in new ideas . . .

We just gave Shama her second tendon from the package. We haven't let her finish the first yet, because it was getting small, and we didn't want to have to supervise that closely. She's been chewing on her new one for 90 minutes!

I just returned from our pet store and saw the Earth'animal NEWA No-Hide Feast Chew. AS it is a combination of turkey, pumpkin and cranberry, my guy should love it. I guess if it's a success they will combine other flavors too. I am more interested in seeing if it will LAST! Not much does, not even a bully stick. Thanks all for your input and I will try one of each of your suggestions with him and see what he likes best. Ill let you know how long this lasts. He is a big Hav, 20#, so if it lasts you know its a hit!! (PS I like that Earth Animal company gives back 1% of sales for the animals, people and the Earth )

I let my pup also try the no raw hide treats by earth animal- but after reading more about them, as with most chews, proceed with caution. They really are raw hide ( https://truthaboutpetfood.com/is-no-hide-dog-treat-actually-hide/). That doesn't mean you can't let your pup chew on them, but only do so while monitoring them. I have read about pups not being able to digest the pieces and then becoming obstructed. So, I will sit next to my pup letting him only chew it and then I take it away when it seems susceptible to a bite/swallow. I don't think there is any chew that doesn't carry a risk. I think you just have to monitor them closely which can be a challenge to do.

Thank you mwhavemom! I read the truthaboutpetfood article you referred to. I am really disappointed in the product we are discussing.I am going to contact the manufacturer and find out what is the no hide
made out of to be able to be called and advertised as no-hide Chews. ( The description of the no-hides given by the turthaboutpetfood article was not appetizing at all-)I will try and find more out about how they
are made with what ingredients for the "no hide" part! I am thinking they can call it no-hide if there is a small percentage of hide in them? If I get a response, I will post it.
