Food Please!

"Hey guys...it's time to eat!"
This is Scout letting us know it's dinnertime. He always taps on the basket and stares until we finally have to give in. 😊

They have good built-in clocks, but have a hard time converting to a Daylight Savings time change.

This makes me happy! Mine makes the weirdest talking/whining sounds when hes hungry, and he sort of acts like hes eating air. And he lays down pathetically like he thinks hes going to die, haha. Lately hes been doing it as early as 4:30! Sigh.

Seriously! How do they do that?? Willow absolutely knowS when it's meal time, play time or time to get up. It's like clockwork.

We once had a dog that was just a mutt, but Bonnie was really fond of my brother. My brother would come every Saturday to spend the weekend with us. Every Saturday morning Bonnie would stand at the end of our driveway, waiting for him. My husband said that she would also stand out in the driveway when it was time for me to arrive home from work.

Our neighbor had a horse. The horse would be standing at the edge of the fence when it was time for him to come home from work. It's like they have clocks programmed into their DNA!

We have a Red Fox that walks through the pastures a little while before dark. The horses will standing there watching for him, maybe five minutes before it's time, but when they first see him, they go back to grazing, and he can walk by fairly close to them.

Oh I would love to see a fox! It's funny how animals seem to expect certain things at the same time every day. Do the horses adjust their alertness for the fox according to how dark it is or is it time based? It gets a little darker every day now so I would assume they adjust their alertness to how dark/light it is.

Zoey taps the cute kibble bin that is in the floor next to the food dishes in the evening and I give her a few bits of kibble, not every evening, so I consider it her stressful day comfort eating. She will bark at an empty water bowl. This brings up one of my favorite things a dog that has been trained using "Puppy Culture" does. It is called "Manding" and they get in a position where you can see them (between you and television or as close as possible when you are on a computer) and make steady, direct eye contact. Eye contact is not a dog's favorite thing, remember. I call this the "Timmy has fallen in the well" Lassie move. Zoey loves to let me know Kosmo is in trouble. By "trouble" I mean he has a shoe, hair tie, sock or the best chew in the house (Zoey's chew, of course) and I need to intervene. And, I do intervene, except over a chew. First I laugh, and then I treat. So, if you want a house "narc": praise in the form of laughter, and then treat. I think Zoey thinks she is "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel".
