Question OFA Certification Importance In Breeders

How important is it that a breeder is OFA certified? I am looking for a puppy but some breeders don't have ofa certification. This eliminates quite a few breeders, but I want to ensure I get a healthy puppy. Is it something I really need to worry about a breeder being though?

You have no way of knowing if a breeder is doing health testing if they are not recording the results with OFA. To me it is absolutely important.

That said, though, please be aware, that even the best breeder, being as careful as possible, doing all possible health testing can’t ABSOLUTELY guarantee that any puppy will not have health problems. Just like with any other biological entity... things happen that are completely outside anyone’s control. All we can do is the best we can to minimize risks. Proper breeding practices, health testing, proper prenatal care of the dam and care of the growing puppies is all we can (and should!) expect of our breeders.
