Breeder Question

Hello,

I haven't posted here in a long time.. I lost my sweet Honey in November to acute renal failure - she was 10.5 years old and truly was my heart dog and soul mate.

After spending time with my sister's Havi a few weeks ago, I decided that I want another baby. When Honey passed away, I planned a trip to Europe in April, so I definitely need to get a puppy after that.

I contacted the breeder that has continuously impressed me over the years - one that I always said that I would use (Starborn) and they are expecting, perfect timing for me to get a new baby. I will have to travel to get the pup - I am in NJ and they are in NC, but to find the right fit is worth it to me. My only concern with them is that they personality test and what if I am waiting and there isn't a match for me? I will be heartbroken.

Last week, I heard about another breeder, Harmony Havanese that is also expecting a litter. According to the website, they are in the town that I live in and also offer a lifetime health warranty and do all the testing - breeder got a merit award from the AKC. Their close proximity is obviously appealing but I absolutely love the program that Starborn has.

I guess in this post I would like to know if anyone has experience with Harmony? I am nervous to not take one and then not get a match with Starborn (but I have had my heart set on Starborn).

Any thoughts?

Thank you so much...

Here is a photo of my precious girl <3

Oh, I am so sorry for your loss! I remember Honey very fondly from your days on the forum. <3

I think you know I think very highly of the Kings, and I think it is unlikely that they will not find a "match for you, if not in those litters, on another litter after that. I believe they are planning a couple of other litters this year. I don't know Harmony Havanese, which, of course, doesn't mean anything one way or the other. But I DO know that you will not be disappointed with a puppy from the Kings, and to me, it is worth it to wait to work with a breeder you feel really comfortable with.

As you know, I have two Starborn dogs, and would do it again in a moment! I didn't get Panda from a different breeder because I'd changed my mind about that... (although Panda's breeder is a good breeder too, and a dear friend)... I wasn't even LOOKING for a puppy when I got Panda... she just sort of "followed me home".

Karen, thank you so much! I remember corresponding with you as well when I was more active. I think you are right - as mentioned, I love everything I see on Starborn's website, youtube channel, from my discussion with Pam AND most of all - with hearing everyone rave about them. Like I said, my biggest fear is just not being a match. I know they are expecting two litters within a few weeks of each other, so I just have to pray and have faith that one will work out.

Do you remember how old the pups were before you found out that there was a match? I am getting puppy fever and I am so excited, but so nervous.

Thanks again XOXO

Well, with Kodi, He had been born when I contacted them. They had a waiting list for girls and had had a litter of 5 boys! She told me that if I didnít care which sex I had, I could have a puppy. I only wanted the best puppy for me. Then the other funny part was that Pam and I had talked a lot, and she and I had pretty much decided on a particular puppy for me. But when I got there, every time I looked down, Kodi had crawled into my lap and was looking up at me. I was smitten. She agreed, so so Kodi came home with me!

With Pixel, I I knew I wanted a girl, and I waited through a couple of litters before Pam felt she had the the right one for us. Remember that Breeders canít always predict how many bitches will get pregnant or who many puppies each will have. So they canít always know how many puppies they will have available and for whom. That part can be hard on everyone!

Canít help with the breeder question, although I agree that just from my time on the forum, a Starborn puppy would be a dream come true I live on the other side of the country so itís really more of a fantasy, but I sort if think I would rather wait for the right match - isnít that part of why you want to go with them, because you trust their judgement?

Was your prior Havanese was named HoneyBunny? She is so sweet!

Thank you! Honey was SO sweet - my best friend and my little love - she made me laugh every single day of her life, even the last few painful ones. 'Honey Bunny' was one of my nicknames for her - along with 'Monkey' (I don't know why Monkey hahaha).

Yes, I agree - personality matching and ethical breeding is obviously my priority - I just miss having a baby so much <3
