Hello,
We're making plans to put a fence in our backyard, but need to finish some landscaping first, since we'll have extremely limited access to do anything after the fence is in. We're removing some bare spruce trees and replacing them with a new privacy planting along the neighbor's back fence that separates our property from the lot directly behind us.
We also have a crabapple tree and a serviceberry tree on either end of the spruce. So my question is - since we're removing the spruce anyway, should we remove the crabapple too while we're at it? I'm leaning toward replacing that too, since we're replacing other things anyway, it doesn't cost that much more to do so, and I'd rather have peace of mind than worry about it. That tree drops a lot of stuff all over the yard, and Koa puts everything in her mouth. I know we still need to watch her no matter what, and maybe she'll somewhat outgrow putting everything in her mouth, but I'd rather remove as much risk as possible since we're going through the removal/replanting process anyway.
Am I overreacting or would you do the same in this situation? I'm wondering about the serviceberry, too. I can't find them on the ASPCA list (good or bad), and I find conflicting or nonconclusive info on other websites, so if anyone knows about serviceberry toxicity, please let me know.
Thanks!
