Mama of Shama, I don't think there is enough time to organize for this Friday or Saturday. Although I have used the ZOOM app once, someone else, a neighbor, set the whole thing up. I know how to download the app for personal use on my computer, but I have no idea how to set it up for group use. My neighbor would help me but she is out of town right now. Does anyone else on this Forum know how to do it? The other thing is that meetups on ZOOM are limited to a maximum 40 minutes for the free version. If you want meetups longer than 40 minutes you have to purchase the 'for fee' version. I don't know how much that costs.

Rather than creating a poll to determine a best time for a meetup, I suggest that we arbitrarily set it up for a Saturday morning meetup and then get members response for that schedule to start. But I think we need to get the program set up first before we pick a date and time certain.

I really like this idea and I think it would be fun to host on a periodic basis - weekly?, monthly?, quarterly?, annually? I would like some feedback from HF members for suggestions and interest. In the meantime, I will research this further and report back.

DD has been using it for dance classes, believe it or not. I have never used it myself, but I think its appeal is that it’s easy to use. If one person sets up the “appointment” and sends an invitation, it’s just a matter of clicking the link. I don’t think you need a profile or to log in to join the video call unless you’re the coordinator.

The other people do need to DL the Zoom ap onto their computer (or other device) ahead of time, or it can be tricky getting them on the first time. I am involved with a "coffee shop" meet-up that is open every morning during the Stay-at-home with a bunch of friends. We don't all do it every day, of course, but someone opens the room every morning at the specified time, and whoever feels like it, joins in. But the first day or two, while we were getting going, it took some patience, while people who had never used Zoom before (including me) were getting access the first time. After that, it has been easy, peasy.

Popi, I'm sorry that I didn't notice this thread yesterday. It really is unbelievably easy to have a Zoom meeting. So easy, in fact, that I decided to host one tonight for whomever can make it just to give it a try. I was thinking 6 PM central time tonight, but I'm flexible if interested parties want to move the time. I'm going to go have breakfast now. I'll post more details later today. Can't wait to see you all!

Popi and Ricky Ricardo will be in attendance tonight, 4 pm PST. Momi may make a cameo appearance. She is hearing impaired and will find it difficult to participate.

Mama of Shama, do you have to pay to host this meeting? I will help if necessary. As you know, we will need the link to the meeting address - which will come later today? Meetup is limited to 40 minutes and 100 members (wishful thinking on my part) right?

Looking forward to meeting all you Hava-lovers!

Excellent! The time has been set, forum members, for TONIGHT at 4 pm PST, which is 6 pm CDT, (and other times other places!) I am thinking that I'll have you PM me for the link to the meeting. Everyone is welcome, but it seems weird to me to just post the link out in the open ... I haven't set up the meeting yet, so don't PM me yet, unless you have another reason to PM me.

No, I do not need to pay to host the meeting. I have a free basic membership. I knew I wanted it to be my platform for meeting with my students starting this Monday, so I signed up. Later, my school district got some sort of district license, but my membership is still just the free basic one. Zoom has kindly extended its meeting length limits to educators. Each meeting for basic memberships used to be limited to 40 minutes, but now educators can hold meetings as long as they like.

For our "virtual playdate" tonight, I'm thinking we should plan for an hour with option to go longer if desired. I'm planning to get Shama sitting in a recliner with the camera facing her so that she can actually host the meeting. I will set it up so that you enter the meeting with your microphones muted and your video off. Then, after you decide who you want to be on your screen and what you want your background to me, you can turn on your video. You are welcome to participate even without turning on your video feed, but what fun would that be for the rest of us? We want to see your dog!

Speaking of backgrounds, you can choose a background from a few choices provided by Zoom, or you can upload a background. The photo I uploaded for my background is a picture from our honeymoon/10-year wedding anniversary when we were in Damouchari, Greece, the village where they shot "Dancing Queen" in the movie "Mamma Mia." (See second video at the following link if interested.)

https://www.routeyou.com/en-gr/locat...278/damouchari

I might let you see into our house, though, depending on how still Shama will sit for the camera (pretty still, as long as I keep the treats coming!)

I'm not sure if you have to be a member of Zoom to have access to the backgrounds. You need not be a member to join tonight's meeting, but you might want to become a member for free just to have more options and to be able to host your family and friends for all sorts of online meetings.

As a courtesy, please keep your microphones muted unless you want to say something. That will especially be helpful if the dogs start barking. Even I will be keeping my microphone muted unless I'm talking.

Any questions? Post them in this thread.

Great to have Shama host the meeting, BUT we want to meet Hava-owners on camera too. Ricky and I will both be on camera from my in home, world headquarters, office. (I better clean up my desk!)

I will check for your PM (private message) starting at 5:30 PM central time. I will send the Zoom link to anyone who PMs me. You are all welcome! The meeting will begin promptly at 6:00 PM central time.

I "think" Skye and I are ready to play. At first Zoom said that my audio was not compatible and wanted me to install Chrome. After a password change or two and other tinkering we finally got everything working. It's not clear if you decided how to get the meeting number to those of us who want to participate. When you get the meeting set up and can get the number out we can log on and make sure our ends are set up properly. We should get the "Meeting has not started yet" message in the Zoom app.

OOPS. Once again the answer was posted while I was writing the question!!
