Trip's 14th Birthday

Trip was the first stud dog we had. He and Twinkle produced our first generation. We stopped breeding him when he was about 8. He wasn't really happy with the younger studs here and females coming in heat, so he started living with some dear friends of ours here at the lake, and has been for the last 6 years. He's still very active, goes for 3 mile walks most days, and goes out on the water with his new family all the time on anything from a classic row boat, to sea kayaks, and the pontoon boat. We still see him fairly often. He's glad to see us, but knows where his home is, and doesn't bother to get up from his seat when John and Gabby drop us off at our dock from dinner cruises.

He's Smallhaven Trip to Remember, and had his 14th Birthday about a week ago. Here's a picture Gabby sent me while on vacation this week in Florida.

Thank You

Trip is beautiful and happy. Thanks for being the responsible breeder who provides a 'forever' home. You're the only kind of breeder I want anything to do with.

The other day, at the pet store, I ran into two women who still run a boarding kennel and used to keep our dogs. They also bred some kind of gorgeous Georgia hunting dogs and no longer do. I asked what happened to the dogs who were her breeding dogs and she said, 'like all of us who love our dogs, we keep them forever or find a great home. We have them still'.

What a great shot of a clearly happy, lucky dog. Happy birthday to Trip.

Thanks for the thoughts! That picture was sent to us to rub it in that we are still bearing the cold here, but it means so much more to us than as a joke. Our friend there is not only very special to us, but just plain very special indeed. She was sent away, alone on a train from Germany, when she was six years old to get an eye looked at by a "special doctor". She never went back to Germany, because word came that her parents had been taken away. They ended up taking the eye out, and she never saw her parents again because they were sent to Auschwitz. In spite of such trauma at the age of six, she has done very well for herself, and we love her dearly.

There is love in that picture beyond simple appearances.
