Surgery is over, fingers crossed

Cotton, our middle child, had surgery today for an inflamed dew claw. During surgery the edge of the bone splintered. This was a surprise for everyone since Cotton and Jodie tear around the house like 2 grizzly bears. Cotton has had no symptoms of any kind until we noticed the inflammation a few weeks ago and took him to the ER vet. We’ve been going to the same vet for 22 years and she is very bright. She became teary eyed talking to me and refused to charge us more for all the extra work and time. We’re trying to just think happy thoughts right now and while we wait for the biopsy results. Today I realized Jodie and Cotton have never spent an entire day/evening apart since we brought Jodie home last year on March 26th. Our old man is at the latter stage of his life and also needs extra care. We’re fine catering to their needs and vet bills. We just don’t want to loose 2 of our babies close together.
The pictures below are Cotton and Jodie a year ago & Cotton and Jodie a week ago. They really are best friends💝

Oops, yes he did. He woke up quickly after surgery and was very alert until we got back home. 5 minutes after lying down between my husband and I on the couch he was snoring. Thank you❣️

Oh, poor baby Cotton! Ouch! Is there any reason to think this is more serious? I will be praying that it is not!!!

Thank you Krandall, the vet doesn’t think Cotton will have any complications and the biopsy should be benign but the she didn’t want to completely rule out the possibility. I really appreciate feedback from people. A couple days ago my neighbor said “Oh God Teresa you still have 2 other dogs, what’s the big deal?” 😱 Sheesh, I told her they’re not just dogs they’ve Havanese. While she was sorting through her confusion I went back inside. I’m so glad I found this forum💖
