I got an extensive free trial of Farmer's Dog. Really loved the idea behind it, but the boys both wound up horrifically sick after eating it despite typically having iron guts. I have my suspicions about what caused it (without elaborating, they aren't allowed to share a crate anymore), but it was so bad and so close to when I started the food that I gave it away to a friend with full transparency as to why it was being given away. Her dogs did just fine with it

Sophie, Nino, and Brisket (Mario too!)

Not a good association. I don’t blame you!

I got a trial of Farmer's Dog for my Duke too, and also ended up giving it away. Everyone was raving about how much their dogs loved it, but Duke wouldn't touch it. He also doesn't care for his kibble, so I am at my wit's end about what to feed him. I also don't have time to cook his meals and also don't want to do raw. May try Nom Nom. Is it like Farmer's Dog?

When I go to the Nom Nom site, I can actually look at recipes. When I go to the Farmers Dog site i cannot see the recipes unless I answer questions and give them my email address. Maybe I am doing something wrong? If not, this would be enough to steer me away from Farmers Dog. A company has to be very transparent about their ingredients before they get my business.

Nom nom looks like food to me. It doesn't smell. I have weird issues with packaged food. I cannot stand the smell of canned anything. Not just dog food. Literally the only canned vegetable I will use is tomatoes. The rest makes me nauseous. But Nom Nom doesn't have this affect on me. I have an overly sensitive sense of smell. My husband says, 'I'd eat that!" I told him it doesn't have any seasoning LOL. Now, I split the two packages Roxie gets a day into four meals. She finishes each one (and licks the bowl!) The real test will be if Oliver will eat it like that. He's the picky one. For all I know, Roxie is the type to eat anything! She's only 9 weeks old. And yes, not only can you see what the ingredients are, but there aren't MANY ingredients. It's whole foods.

Compared to the others, Nom Nom looks and smells like real food because it is and it isn't all mashed up. It is real, fresh food chopped up like you'd do it yourself. The biggest difference between Nom Nom and doing it yourself is they add vitamins etc that are essential to a dogs diet. The ingredient list is short and basic.

I’m the same way. The smell of canned green beans, even after they are long out of the can, will ruin a meal for me. When our puppy first came home, the breeder recommended mixing canned into his food for several months. I had this whole routine where I held my breath, and special containers for the food, and I threw it away immediately outside. I was so glad when that phase was over!

I remember someone mentioned this a while back and I was interested but it bugged me that I couldn’t get pricing without going through the whole process. I get it’s probably adjusted based on size but it bugged me enough not to follow through the with registration. Maybe I’ll reconsider.

My husband thinks I’m a snob because I’ll only eat fresh vegetables. He’s over it after 11 years but yeah, I roast or sautťe all our vegetables

I had to come around on cooked vegetables. I donít think I cooked a vegetable other than maybe corn for years, not even broccoli or carrots. I ate pretty much all vegetables raw and in salads. But DH does most of the cooking. He has come up with some pretty great way of cooking vegetables that I wouldnít have tried, and there isnít a single can of vegetables in the pantry, so I canít complain

My mom cooked and provided a lot of fresh food, a salad with most dinners, but to her it was almost a luxury, and a mark of how hard my parents worked so they could do that. She grew up on a farm and was not above canned food, and bottled many things herself.

Itís not like Iím so picky I would embarrass myself at dinner at someone elseís house, I just have weird food quirks. Ground beef is another one. I detest it.

Krandall, you mentioned having to watch out for breads with your nut allergies. Is that pertaining to whole grains? Just curious, 95% of all food items in a grocery store are off limits due to my sensitivities so I eat the same 3 meals every day. Thank goodness our dogs arenít like that. They love their boiled chicken, carrots, pumpkin, peanut butter and coconut oil. I actually wear a painters masks when I cook sometimes because Iím also sensitive to smells, especially garlic!
