Panda scared me!!!

I had a weird thing happen with Panda last night. I wonder if anyone has seen anything similar. She had a really busy day yesterday... We went to a friend's house for out-door lunch, and she played a LOT with her three Havanese friends. Then I did a few errands on the way home, including the car wash, which took a while, as I had them do the outside as well as the inside. She wasn't in the car for that, of course, but sat in my lap on a bench outside, while she "people watched" and kept an eye on the busy traffic... neither of which is something she sees often from her sheltered, "farm home". But she seemed happy and upbeat the whole time, happily greeting all those who told her how cute she was.

So... Last night in bed, she started making strange noises in her sleep that woke me up. She snores sometimes when she sleeps on her back, but this sounded more distressed. She doesn't often have dreams that we notice, but Kodi does this from time to time. I reached down to stroke her, which normally is enough to make Kodi stretch, roll over and settle again. She didn't move, and the noises continued. So I put my hand under her head and lifted it a little, thinking to gently rouse her. She was TOTALLY limp. Then I got scared. I had been lying on my side, and she was behind my legs, so I lifted her up to bring her in front of me. Still COMPLETELY limp, and now making no noise. I was sure she was dead, and I'd been hearing her last breaths. I put her down in front of me and turned on the light... At which point she opened her eyes, licked my chin, and wagged her tail. She was absolutely fine. Now, I think she was just in a VERY deep sleep, and "talking" in her sleep. She's acting TOTALLY normal today. But boy, she had ME totally awake and having a heart attack in the middle of the night!!!

That does sound frightening. My boxer used to sleep deeply and make little yelping noises but she never seemed like she wasnít breathing. Glad she is fine today.

Never seen anything quite like that! That would have been scary for me too. I know Willow makes all sorts of noises when dreaming but always wakes up easily.

Panda!!!

OMGosh that would have scared the crud out of me too. I haven't had quite that happen but a long time ago I was staring at Sophie and she literally looked like she wasn't breathing. Her side wasn't going up and down at all. I waited and saw nothing then panicked and yelled her name and have her a good pat on her side. She levitated about 2 ft straight up into the air then landed and stared at me with dinner plate eyes.

I wonder too if Panda just didn't have an extra long day and was in a deep sleep? Is she still totally fine, eating normal etc? If so I'll bet that was it.

These kids!

Well, I couldn't TELL whether she was breathing, because it was in the dark. But she was so limp that I wasn't sure she was alive. Before I got a chance to get the light turned on to check for breathing, she was awake and licking me!

Poor Sophie!!! LOL!

Yes, I think that's exactly what it was. She was just VERY tired, her brain was processing all that had gone on in the day, and she was simply VERY deeply asleep. It's kind of sweet, when I think about it, that she is so relaxed, between us in bed, that she allows herself to fall into that deep a sleep. I'm not sure either Kodi or Pixel would. The only time Pixel goes limp, it is obvious "passive resistance". Like when you pick her up to put her on the grooming table... "I can't stop you, but I'm sure as H--L not going to help! But she's also fully awake at the time!

Thank goodness Panda is okay! I was beginning to feel panicked just reading your post. Iím glad youíre okay also Karen, thatís stressful for mommies. JoJo did that twice in his younger years and I was no less panicked the 2nd time. Being completely limp terrified me the most. Both times we were at friends homes with mini farms, a doggieís paradise. Okay you hairy little kids, stop scaring us❣️ Very happy to know sheís back to normal though.

So do you think that the times she did it, she was just really exhausted from all the sights and smells?
