does anyone feed natural balance kibble?

after a long talk with the vet, he believes Djangos issues are food related. didn't know this but some dogs can't process canned, too much moisture. we need to put him on a new food all together. he suggested venison and potato. there's a great food out there by natural balance that looks great. anyone currently feeding their dogs this brand?

Ninja had sooo many stomach issues when he was on other brands. Someone recommended natural balance and I was worried about trying it because I thought I heard something about a recall. The kind we feed is the Duck and potato which was not the one that was pulled off shelves. We mix that with white meat chicken and he has been doing good on it. It's so far, the only brand of kibble I've been able to get him to eat...and I've tried a LOT!

I really didn't know some dogs can't process canned food. Thank you for sharing!

Kodi has been eating Natural Balance kibble for almost a year now. (since we changed him to adult food) He eats the NB Organic, but I'e been very happy with NB food in general. I also use their rolled food for training.

Kodi has eaten nothing but kibble in his entire life. His coat is gorgeous, his poops are firm and non-smelly, and until our current problem (which I'm sure wasn't caused by his food!) he has been incredibly healthy!

Izzy seems to have allergies from duck and Lamb- I know it is in everything but Bison or Venison seems to be ok. Currently all the dogs are thriving on Solid Gold Just a Wee Bit- Bison formula.

Natural Balance is a great food though, we have used the venison and the bison formulas- they have biscuits too I did notice the potatoe as 1st ingredient and the dogs seem to poop more on it. Also if using the foodrolls check the label- seems that the standards for the kibble are not the same!- they have wheat flour and sugar and wheat bran and yeast- I learned the hard way after both Drake and Izzy had allergy flare ups- Izzy gets itchy ears, Drake skin bumps. I drive my husband nuts No they can't eat that lol. They all love a good fresh carrot to chew- it's to cute- Vana picked it up right away after coming to our home

also for both ends of the poop problems spoonful of canned pumpkin a day 100% pure kind not pie mix- works for humans too., incase you were wondering haha

Taste of the wild has some good ones too ( duck or lamb is in the mixes though)
so I use it as treats now and again

I bought a small roll to try. Unfortunately, I did not read the ingredients before buying as it has Sodium Nitrite in it and in the trash it went. We don't eat lunch meat and I buy nitrite/nitrate free bacon and hot dogs. It is a cancer causer and would not feed it to my dog. Was quite surprised to find it in the food.

well the vet recommended venison, django has a beef allergy, we have removed chicken from his diet (except when he's sick or eating the GI food) and he said not to go back to the lamb. i researched the ingredients and this brand seemed to have the most clean ingredients of all. no wheat, etc. etc. i have to transition him from his GI canned to the kibble.

who would have thought it was his food. poor guy doesn't miss a beat. he still plays, take his meds like a champ, eats and is sleeping a bit more, oh, did mention he threw up this morning. anyways, my hope is once the flagyl kicks in and we have a few good poops (hopefully by the weekend) i will slowly transition him to the kibble over 2 week period. i just hope he eats it.

Sorry you're still struggling. The only advice I can give you is Sabine. No disrespect to vets. But there's no such thing as too much moisture in dog food. Canned food is close to what natural food would be . Much healthier than kibble. Check out my post from a while ago called Cannned versus Kibble. If its food related, get a nutritionist's opinion , not a vet. JMO What do you think dogs ate before kibble was invented 60 years ago. ? Food that contained high moisture content. It's the lack of moisture that is one of the main problems with kibble .

I respect companies that do voluntRy recalls. As long as you avoid the specific lots that they have trouble with (I suspect they've all been pulled from the shelves long ago now) there should be no problem. I know the recall didn't include the organic formula, so I didn't take much notice of it beyond that.

I'm not sure which NB formula has potato as the first ingredient... Certainly not Organic. That has chicken as the first ingredient. I THINK chicken meal is the second ingredient, but I'd have to go check the bag, and I'm in bed with my IPad right now!<g>. Kodi's poops are small, dryish, well formed and don't smell bad or cause cling-ons.. Not all NB formulas are grain free, so if you have a dog with grain allergies, be careful which formula you choose.

I agree that I wouldn't use the rolled food as a main food source, but it's GREAT training food. They love it. I cut it into patties, freeze the patties and then can pull them out one at a time as needed.

One more tip as far as pumpkin is concerned. Around here, it's almost impossible to find when you get past the holidays. I've found that canned squash works just as well. I freeze that too, by plopping spoonfuls on a piece of wax paper. Once they are frozen, I peel them off and store the frozen pieces in a plastic bag.
