How big is too big?

How big of dogs do you guys let your Havanese play with?

My parents have a Finnish Spitz who is enamored with Eva but right now she is just way too much dog for Eva to handle Right now we just let them hang out when Penny, the Spitz, is tuckered out from a bout of running around but I'm wondering if Eva will ever be big enough to run around with her.

Here's a pic of the two of them the other day hanging out. Too cute

I'm not sure, but I would like it depends on the dog, if the big dog is used to being around small dogs, if he is 'careful' if he/she plays gently??
The picture is ADORABLE!!!

Yeah right now Penny gets way too worked up around other dogs. Not aggressive, but just too playful for her own good

My grandmother's terriers aren't fans of Penny but she gets along wonderfully with her poodle and the neighbor's smaller dog. I guess we'll just have to wait until Eva gets bigger and see!

In that picture...the big dog looks like he is sooo happy...It is so cute he looks like he's thinking oh what a great moment lol.

I think it also depends on the temperment of the big dog. If he is calm and relaxed then I think it would be okay and also keep an eye on your little pup. Sometimes the little ones provoke the big ones lol...Then again I am no expert. I hope someone else joins in here!!

yeah it's not the size that you have to worry about. You want to make sure the dog is friendly to yours. It's vital to socialize with large dogs ,but with any dog make sure they seem friendly. Always supervise when dogs are new friends. Make sure your puppy classes incorporate large and small together. You always have to watch them. Many small dogs become fear aggressive if not socialized regularly with all sorts of dogs.

I think it COMPLETELY depends on the big dog. There are many medium sized dogs (like Border Collies and Aussies) that I wouldn't let Kodi play with just because they are too rambunctious. OTOH, Kodi's "BFF" and protector since he was a small puppy is a HUGE German Shepherd who is just a sweet, gentle soul. (and also fully adult when they met, so the "bounciness" was gone) Kodi and Buddy can go blasting up and down the beach with each other and I can trust that Buddy will always be careful not to step on Kodi or bowl him over.

Kodi has always had a pretty good sense of which dogs are "safe". He's not shy at all, and LOVES playing with other dogs. But if they are substantially larger than he is, and play rough, he's right under my feet!

Kipling spends time with two German Shepherds but under the careful supervision of our trainer...this is when he is boarded. He does quite fine with both of them but it's a monitored situation. When other new, bigger dogs are there he is cautious with them but eventually can run with any big dog. He also has a great relationship with a Wheaton Poodle who belongs to friends of ours.

I think it depends on the big dog. Here is our lab who is super patient with Sugarbaby.

Eva is adorable. What a cute picture of her with the big Spitz. Augie gets a bit nervous if big dogs come bounding at him. He ends up under me too. That is where the training classes have been good for him as there are always an abundance of bigger dogs there.

Stella loves playing with my DD's golden retriever but they've been playing together since Stella was about 6 months old and the golden is as gentle a dog as they come. Stella is more apprehensive around other big dogs.
