POLL for all Havanese Owners - AKC Registration..

When you purchased your Havanese dog, did your breeder give you the AKC registration for your dog?

Yes
No

Mine did(he was already neutered).
One breeder that I was supposed to get a puppy from does not give a registration at all. Limited or otherwise. Not even when you neuter the dog. It is co-owned forever. I am wondering if this is a common situation, not sure if I am phrasing this right.

Thanks!

As you alluded, an altered dog can only get "limited" registration (no participation in conformation competitions). So I think the poll would be more informative if it had three selections - none, limited. and full registration.

When we purchased Ricky, he was "intact" with the agreement that we would have him neutered at about 1 y.o. (which we did). Therefore when we purchased him, he had full registration. He had participated in a number of AKC puppy class conformation competitions and had several ribbons to his credit. When we got him neutered, the breeder and previous owner refused to help us get limited registration, so I had to do it on our own. But that's a distant memory now. Ricky has continued to compete in AKC Obedience and is still winning ribbons.

I’m very interested in this poll! Jojo was sold with limited registration available only. I have yet to complete it. I asked about this and Karen suggested I do it and I plan to but haven’t gotten around to it yet. In many ways it feels like a donation to the AKC as I don’t plan for her to compete. But I don’t mind making that donation and do see the benefit of their tracking her chip. Interested to see how the poll comes out.

I agree with the donation thought! I do think that they charge a late fee if you don't do it within a certain amount of time, if I remember correctly.
I like to get the pedigree framed. I have them hanging in my kitchen for 3 of my dogs. I like to look at them.

Not EXACTLY right. A dog with a limited registration need never be neutered, and a dog neutered or spayed from medical necessity could STILL have full registration, but it would be meaningless. Limited registration means that the dog's offspring, if any, can never be registered.

Dogs with limited registration are always allowed to compete in companion sports.

Desiís breeder filed the registration paperwork before we brought him home. I was supposed to have only limited registration but AKC actually sent both the full and limited certificates in the mail. If you are interested in pedigrees, the Havanese Gallery website is a great resource.

The havanese gallery is indeed, fantastic. I have printouts of both my dog's family trees (provided by my breeder, but she got them from hav gallery)

I'm not voting as I'm not in the US, but it's a requirement in Canada that all purebred dogs be sold with registration papers, microchip, and 6 weeks pet insurance You can actually be fined for not doing that.

My breeder AKC registered and microchipped Izzie before I brought her home. I must have her spayed at age one. She also gave me Izzie's pedigree. I discovered that the Kings' (Starborn Havanese) Redman is Izzie's granddad. So Tom, double thanks for being the reason I have Izzie. Michele is definitely an awesome breeder to work with.

Was this one of Rooney's puppies? I was just down there for four nights, breeding Lucy to him for her first breeding. Lucy got to sleep on the bed in the hotel with me. She was great in every way during the trip. I met Izzie's Mom, Maple (?) too. Lucy is Maple's littermate Sister.

Here is the Happy Couple, and Lucy passing time on the trip. Phone pictures, so they may not be upright.

Rooney is 1/4th our Posh's blood too.

Well, the happy couple certainly look happy!
Tom, do you give AKC registration with your puppies? Or are they co-owned? I am not sure I understand that concept when puppies are sold as pets.
