Happier with less fur?

Hi all ,

Last few months I tried to grow Fedja's coat long, maybe it's me I'm not sure, but he seems a lot more comfortable when kept short. We both have learned to enjoy brushing and combing, so that's not an issue.
As some of you may already know Fedja isn't much of a cuddler, but (only when short trimmed) occasionally he do comes to lay in bed with me, or even under the blankets (luv that!). With long coat he only goes for cold places on the floor or near the doors for some air I think. He will pant very often too, especially indoors.
Other problem is that we live in a rainy climate, (spring can be really wet, not to mention autumn months lol), but we still go out 2 times a day for a long walk/play(not counting the shorter potty walks). So he is more wet then dry throughout the day. I doubt if this is healthy. Sometimes I do blow dry him, but I don't think it would be good for his coat/skin either to do this few times a day. He also likes to swim , and I let him do it.
Although I love his long look sooo much, overall he seems much happier and lively when kept short. And I loose even that small amount of cuddling when i choose for long hair. What a dilemma lol.
I often wonder how this dogs survived on Cuba, because Fedja obviously prefers cold weather!
What do you all think, do your hav's seem happier with short trimmed coats?

From my reading....I thought the Hav long coat was an insulation against the hot weather. I have noticed that Dexter goes for the cool spots for his belly in the Summer. He pants more, drinks more water and less active in the hot summer. Dexter coat was about 1/2-2 inches last Summer.

I know what you are saying with that long coat and wet weather, leaf, grass, stick collecting, snow...etc., it is a lot of work to keep those coats clean. In the end, it is up to the pet owner whether you want a short, medium, long haired Hav and how much grooming you will have to devote to grooming. Some Havs are adorable in the short cuts.

I remember when I first had Dexter groomed, he was a good six inches long and I remember....it was so nice to have a break from combing every day, combing out before before bedtime, removing the sticks, sticks, leaves. It was really nice!

It doesn't seem to me that any of mine are happier with short coats, but less grooming makes me happier. I know what you mean about loving the long coats but it sounds like your baby feels better with it short and it might dry faster when it gets wet. You're right, it doesn't sound good at all for him to be damp all day.

Vinny, Lulu, Gabby and Richie too!

Be yourself, everyone else is taken.

Our Dizzie prefers the cooler weather, in the summer he lays on the cool kitchen tiles, and always chooses to stay in the shady areas.Nellie was such a baby last summer that it is hard to say what she likes best. They both love the snow especially Dizzie. We are thinking of having them trimmed short for the summer as we go to the beach a lot and they like to play in the sea,so their coats get full of sea salt and sand.

My guys will lay out in the sun and I have to make them come in. Esp. my light colored girl. They like the snow also but will come in on their own. I think it is just like people some like the heat better then the cold.
