sibling for one year old Havanese

I have a wonderful one year old male Havanese who is awesome. He truly is such a good dog. I'm starting to feel bad that he doesn't have another dog to play with and am considering a brother or sister for him. Really don't want to do the whole puppy training thing again so if we could find a dog that is 6 months to one year it would be great. Does anyone have opinions on whether a boy or girl is better to get? My fear is that this dog won't be as perfect as my current one!!!

I don't think the sex of the second matters, so go for whatever feels right. I had the same fear after I got Milo but each one of the others was special in his/her own way. It's a little like with children. You love each one of them for themselves and their own special gifts.

Just Milo and me, and . . . Bailey makes three . . . until Ruby said, "hey, what about me?"

I doubt there will be any problem male or female. It might take your boy a little while to get used to sharing you, but probly not very long since he is so young.

I only have a 1/2 hav, he's 15 months old now... but I got sucked into the foster mom thing and I fostered a 9 wk old anatolian (my usual breed) pup - in August 2010, boy, named him Oz.
He hasn't left my side side. but him and Ollie (my little guy) they are inseparable. I was skeptical to have two boys, as I have always have a boy and a girl (I have a femal anatolian 6 yr old, she gets along great with my little guy, just ok with the male anatolian Oz), I'm so glad the boys have each other, as they play non-stop all day. and they are (moreso Oz) in the middle of eating my brand new leather couch. other than that, it's awesome and they will grow old together. it's good for both of them as they learn to share things and me, and all that good stuff.
I think if you can afford it, ppl should always have two dogs.

Oz was about the same size as Ollie when I got Oz, but now Oz is 65 lbs and still growing. I"m sure Ollie is thinking why are you so big? I love watching them play. it's hysterical. esp tug of war. Oz like to lay on top (chest, like a 'down' position) of Ollie so Ollie can't walk away or leave... Ollie isn't too hot on that.

anyway I digress... I feel even though I have three right now (never thought I would) two is ideal in my world. I've thought about getting another small dog for Ollie, but I love him so much I can't imagine loving another little one as much, it would seem unfair.
