Cats Poo! Eating the Stuff!

How do you keep CATS out of your garden? I am so sick of the boys finding cat's poo and eating it.

I read some of the ingredients on some stuff that has pepper in it, but I did not want to take a chance my boys would get a hold of it. It has way to many precautions on this stuff, it is scary! Like call the Poison Center if your animal get a hold of it!

What do you do?

We have had a cat lurking lately that was driving Abby crazy! I wanted to get rid of so DH put out some citrus peels where we had seen it so we're hoping it will work. I'd read that once before on the forum a couple of years ago. Does anyone remember if I got that right?

Cat poo must be special because dogs always seem to love it!!!

I found some information....I am going to try orange peelings, grapefruit peelings, and old coffee grounds and..... I am going to buy a few Citronella plants also. Hope some of the new ingredients work!

Rosie doesn't eat the poo; but we have feral cats that have taken up residence under our guest house. They are males and have sprayed my upper deck, jump on Josie Wales every time she goes out, and I am afraid that one will be in the fence area when Rosie goes out and she will get scratched. Husband has the shotgun at the back door. He has set the live traps and they are to cunning to catch. Does anyone have any ideas. both of us actually hate to use the shotgun remedy; but Rosie and Josie Wales as opposed to the feral cats -- well the cats lose. DH said that Rosie nearly cornered one this week early in the morning. He didn't see it when he put her out for her early morning potty and she immediately took off after the cat. Luckily the cat made it to the fence before Rosie. Help!!

My boys also bark at the cats when inside. If they were outside, they would definitively chase the cats!

I have put some grapefruit peelings in a favorite cat poo area and the boys have smelled the area and walked away. Hopefully the cats will not return to this area when they smell the grapefruit peelings.

Lucy have you tried enclosed cage traps? And, then deliver the cats to an animal shelter.

There is a farm not far from where we live, that is open to the public, and they have a colony of feral cats amongst all the farm animals and their pet cats and dogs, anyway what they find the best coarse of action is to feed the ferals and leave well alone. The ferals are well fed and just keep to themselves, despite being well fed they still keep the rats and mice at bay.

These cats have invaded my yard. They sit on my front porch and look in the windows and being tom cats, they have sprayed every where. terrible oder Josie has been scratched by them. She wants to go out but we are afraid that they will attack her again. And we have baited the live traps with sardines which works well for coons and possums, but the cats avoid the traps. Luckily I haven't seen any females so there are no kittens.

Update: Still saving all coffee grounds, citrus peelings which are sliced thinly and then all saved ingredients are sprinkled in the garden of favorite cat poo sites. I will have to admit, the boys have gone over to the sites to smell the new stuff, but I have not seen them eating anything.

So............the Citrus peelings (Orange, Grapefruit, Limes) and coffee are working for these little poop eating boys!
