Smile It's hard to believe but

...our dear little Sally climbed over a 4 foot high exercise pen today. We went shopping and left her "secure"...at least, so we thought in the pen with lots of chew toys etc. When we arrived home, guess who greeted us at the door??? I don't know what we will do now as I am concerned that she will hurt herself in the four foot fall; guess we will have to lock her in the bathroom...she is only 13 weeks old and we can't let her have the run of the house when we are not there.

Another thing she has taken to is picking raspberries. She found a whole bush full of wild raspberries outside and when we take her out to do her business she pulls us right over to the bushes right away and starts picking the low berries off the bush. I am trying to not let her at the berries until she has completed what she went out for....so the berries act as a bit of a reward and stimulate her to hurry up.

These Hav's are a pure delight !!!

Aren't they amazing?!

If you want one, they sell canvas tops that snap to ex-pens that aren't too expensive. Of course, you will need to configure the ex-pen into a square or whatever shape the cover is so that it will work, but they are very helpful. I was babysitting a Havanese that would scale (climb) the ex-pen so fast when I left the house, so I tried the canvas top that her owner brought with her and it did the trick.

WOW that's pretty high for a hav to climb but not considering the Agility Competitions but for that young....pretty impressive...

What about the Hav's that get over the top and then when thet hear the key in the door they climb back over and act like they were never out. Little sneakers...that's how they keep the secret to themselves that way they can do it whenever they want.

I understand where you are coming from. Brutus first climbed out of his ex-pen when it was in hubby"s office and there was all kinds of potential problems. So we moved the expen to a spare bedroom and closed the door. Only proble mwas that once he climbed out, the water and pee pad was on the other side.

We finally moved the ex-pen down stairs and he has full run of the family room there. He is comfortable. I saw him climb the fence once to get in when he was outside it for some reason, but now he has no interest to climb outside it.

So I guess I am saying, find a place where your puppy is comfy and she will stay safe.

Ryan, it's really funny if you haven't seen it before, but I've watched several Havanese scale their ex-pens by using the horizontal bars as rungs. Rufus was to the top of his by the time he was 7 weeks old. I was not thrilled to see that, and glad I never saw him try it again.

On the other hand, I have an 18" ex-pen for my older girls and they will not jump over it. On different occasions, I've had Hillary and Lito (no longer with me) accidentally jump over it when they are excited about me getting home and try to figure out how to get back to the other side. Now, that is funny to see.
